Second Summer Chill
March 21st, 2002 by freddie96
The Big Chill’s main UK summer event takes place in the stunning setting of Eastnor Castle in the Malvern Hills of Herefordshire on the weekend of August 16th – 18th.
Eastnor Castle probably surpasses any of the Big Chill sites for sheer beauty . The site boasts four small lakes, set against a backdrop of the ancient castle, rolling hills and the golden valleys of deepest Herefordshire, remote and beautiful, but only minutes from the national motorway network (M50/M5).
‘We’re very excited about this summer,’ says Pete Lawrence explains, ‘and especially about the new site at Eastnor Castle. The setting is pretty spectacular, nestled in a boel in natural parkland, which includes several lakes and views over the castle. The park was once part of a medieval chase; it’s also a designated area of outstanding natural beauty, a site of special scientific interest and includes a coppice which is ancient woodland, where the art trail will be situated. It’s a massive pleasure to be in a position to be invited to come and programme entertainment in a setting like Eastnor Castle, and we’re very much looking forward to working with the estate to make this our most memorable festival yet.’
The festival will have a capacity of 10,000 (tbc), and will feature performances from Terry Callier, Cinematic Orchestra, Fila Brazillia, Aim, Plaid, Mark Rae, the return of the Jedi Knights / Global Communication (Tom Middleton/Mark Pritchard), Mr Scruff, Norman Jay, Gilles Peterson, A Man Called Adam, Andreas Vollenweider and friends and many others.
