LOL GOES IBIZA!

December 4th, 2003 by

LOL GOES IBIZA!You may be snuggling up in front of the fire and digging out your thermals, but where Ibiza’s concerned, the party’s only just started. Many of the fresh tunes which spun people right round (oooh baby, right round) this year are only now getting their first proper street releases.

Big Chill celeb Lol Hammond was out there this year, not only to dish out his unique brand of danceaholic tuneage, but also to hang out with movie stars as the music consultant to the Peter Kaye-starring ‘Human Traffic’ follow-up ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong’… Here’s his essential guide to Ibiza beats 2003, whether you’re clubbing it or chilling out…

For the best part of the summer this year I found myself upon the spiritual home of acid house the island of Ibiza . This is where, luckily for all of us, Paul Oakenfold, Danny Rampling and crew stumbled upon the sound of Balaerica.

More throbbing clubs than anywhere else on the planet – Pacha, Amnesia, Privilege, El Divinos… Add to those the most gorgeous beaches, the most beautiful people and sunsets to die for… and you can see why people often describe Ibiza as the most beautiful place on Planet Earth.

And there’s a healthy clubbing and chillout scene – so don’t listen to the folk who say the island’s best days are all behind it. Returning to the UK for just essential gigs including last year’s wonderous Big Chill Festival at Eastnor and a couple of cracking gigs at Fabric, I was out there all Summer as music supervisor and consultant on the ‘Human Traffic’ follow up ‘It’s all gone Pete Tong’, a Vertigo Films production. The film was directed by Canadian Mike Dowse and stars the multi-talented Paul Kaye, best known for his work as the infamous Dennis Pennis.

As well as working on this soon-come clubbibg cinema classic I got to play out at some fantastic clubs including Pacha, the legendary Circo Loco at dc10 (promoted by my wicked pal Charlie Chester ) and a handful of most enjoyable sunset sets at Cafe Mambo. My favourite party, though, was a pool party I played at with the awesome Chris Coco and Pacha resident Sarah Main.

Here, then, are the tunes that I feel captured the vibe and spirit of the place this awesome Summer…
