PTB featuring Ella – ‘The Big Ten’
The new issue of Future Music (out Wednesday 14th April) features a sneak CD audio preview of this summer’s Big Chill tenth birthday track ‘The Big Ten’. The accompanying feature by Danny Scott, which runs to eight pages, tells the story of how the magazine set The Big Chill challenge as part of their regular Ready Steady Mix – an invitation to compose and finish a track in a day.
Pete Lawrence, Bruce Bickerton and Tom Middleton took up the challenge, and set to work in Tom’s Hornsey studio and – give or take a couple of additional hours mixing – pretty much completed the track in a day, with Bickerton delivering one of his best ever lead vocal performances.
The lyrics were taken from a thread on the forum where Big Chillers expressed their own interpretations of what The Big Chill meant to them, and used in the context of The Big Chill’s personal origins. Pete’s daughter Ella shares vocal duties with Bruce on the choruses.
″We are ten years old
and we are one
living life..
and sharing love″
A release is expected later in the year.
