HANGING ART DESIGNS

The Art Trail is not the same with out a bit of UV. And none better than that by Hanging Art Designs – whose work has an environmental message to boot.
What do you do?
‘I’m a kinetic and sculptural lightworks artist.’
How did you get to where you are today?
I did a degree in Agricultural Economics in 1991. I was due to work in overseas agricultural extension when a job fell through in Tanzania. So I decided to make wall hangings for 9 months until my masters degree in started. I then chose to be an artist instead. I designed and manufactured displays for High Street stores like Jigsaw, Monsoon, Kookai and others after which I entered into the gallery and corporate arena. And I’ve been there ever since.’
What got you involved with The Big Chill?
‘I went to The Big Chill at Lulworth. I loved the vibe and the Art Trail. I was attracted to the overall vision and it had a nicer vibe than Glastonbury. And the site this year is made for a truely groovey time!’
What are you planning to do at The Big Chill this year?
‘My piece is called ‘Next Generation 1′. It’s a UV wind sculpture. It raises the awareness of renewable energy from wind and highlights our inextricable economic and spiritual link to the natural environment.’
What do you think to the Art Trail – should all festivals have one?
‘I think it will rock people’s world! Yes, every festy should have one! It has a nice combination of fantasy and escapism.’
Are there certain aspects of outdoor art which are difficult to handle?
‘The unpredictability of the elements, health & safety – and access to power supplies!’
What are your current plans in work or otherwise?
‘I’m doing the Eden Project next year where I’ll be making a large scale UV wind sculpture.’
