A Man Called Adam present Hooked on Classical
In a spirit of self indulgence we are launching ‘@ Hooked On Classical’ – a bi- monthly online fanmag about classical music for the blank generation.
Issue 1 features:
3 streaming mixes… I The unanswered question 21.43′
II Rondo Burleske 18.16′
III Early Telemusic 22.31′
Animations of Beethoven’s scribblings, Haydn in the Moog, and Rockin’
Amadeus plus video feedback from the Vatican.
@HOC parties we’re using digital and DJ technology to throw up a spontaneous mix of classical, modern classical, electronica, hip hop, found-sounds and loops, making new music out of old and attempting to give old forms new life. Triggered video and animation are used as a ‘way in’ to the complex and sometimes difficult source material, providing a dynamic visual representation of what you hear.
Like Charles Ives’ colliding marching bands or Scriabin’s ‘Mysterium’ our schtick is one of anti-mediocrity and synaesthetics. That is, the best riffs, breaks and very cool visuals.
We’re also working on Issue 2 (July 1st 05) and are looking for contributors – graphics, animations, mixes, poetry and prose all considered.
A Man Called Adam – Biogs
Sally Rodgers and Steve Jones are better known as ‘techno adventurers’, A Man Called Adam. Their recorded output includes groundbreaking tracks in many genres of electronic music and they are regarded as innovators in the field. They’ve been guest lecturers for Middlesex University’s People Symphony and Groove On community projects teaching music and performance to North and East London school children and at songwriting seminars at BIM and the famous Chateau Marouatte in Southern France. HOC continues the precedant set by their acclaimed ‘Town and Country’ parties at the National Theatre’s Late Lounge sessions and Watch This Space festivals, by bringing together digital technology, performance, art and poetry. Last year saw the release of their ‘Best Of’ collection on Southern Fried records and their current schedule includes gigs in Singapore, Warsaw and Shanghai.
