FAT TUESDAY – DAY-BY-DAY
July 12th, 2005 by rui
Southern Comfort returns with it’s Fat Tuesday tent again this year.
Due to its popularity last year, it will now have an outdoor stage in addition to it’s tent. Fat Tuesday draws on the inspiration of the infamous party city, New Orleans, and home to Southern Comfort for the decor, which helps create something a little different to other tents.
Tucked away by the lake, the tent will be decked out with palm trees, old posters and albums from the city, antique standing lamps, giant decadent mirrors and big beaten up sofas.
Super 8 films and Lomo photography recently shot in New Orleans by photographer Chris Keenan will be used by VJs Preamptive to light up the tent and surrounding area.
A creole food stall will serve up Southern style food alongside the usual favourites. Plus, ice cold cocktails. Passion fruit, lime and cranberry favourite the ‘Southern Smash’ will be back, along with the So-Co Mule and a special fresh fruit salad cocktail. And help yourself to a feather mask!
Many of the acts have played at other Fat Tuesday events around the country and this time the line up was carefully selected so that during the day, you can order a cold drink, lounge around in the sun or under the huge oak trees…and kick back. At night, the tempo rises and Fat Tuesday parties like it’s Mardi Gras.
The line-up includes Rhys Adams & Mark Rae present A.R.P, Bugz in the Attic, Ashley Beedle, Skitz, Nextmen DJs, Yam Who? feat. Chaz Jankel and Rico, Idjut Boys, Andy Smith, Soul Jazz, Soft Rocks and Alice Russell, Flevans / Kinny & Horne, The Dub Pistols feat. Rodney P and special guest, plus the Youngblood Brass Band from the US plus many more.
Grand Central’s Mark Rae will be teaming up with hot new talent Ayak. The pair has been in the studio working on Mark Rae’s forthcoming album after meeting at a Fat Tuesday Party in Scotland back in December 2004 and this appearance will be one of their first outings together.
Fresh back from a trip to New Orleans working with local talent, British Hip Hop’s most eclectic producer and DJ – Skitz – will be incorporating some of the records and beats he picked up on the way.
For the first time at the festival, Big Chillers will be invited to take part in procession led by the Youngblood Brass Band. This will begin at the main stage after their performance on Sunday and will end at the Fat Tuesday tent, where Soul Jazz will then take over.
