Lol Hammond – Biography
Born in North London in 1965, multi-instrumentalist, Lol began making electronic music with legendary renegade sound system ‘Spiral Tribe’ in 1991. Around the same time, he formed the ‘Drum Club’ with London DJ Charlie Hall. They also started the acclaimed club of the same name. Releasing three critically-acclaimed albums and touring the world extensively with the likes of Orbital and Prodigy, The early singles (on renowned label, Guerilla Records) ‘U Make Me Feel So Good’ and ‘Alchemy’ (complete with Orbital mix) became instant club anthems. He has remixed a number of acts over the years including ‘Alabama 3′, ‘The Fall’, ‘Jah Wobble’, ‘Lush’, ‘Curve’ and punk legends ‘Killing Joke’ twice.
Lol has also had music featured in many movies including ‘The World is Not Enough’, ‘Southwest 9′ (which also features a cameo appearance by the man himself, as messianic DJ whipping the Brixton corwds into a frenzy), ‘Halloween’, ‘Football Factory’, ‘It’s All Gone Pete Tong’.
Obsessed with film from an early age, he has worked as a music supervisor for exciting British production company, Vertigo Films for the past five years. He has been music supervisor on four feature films to date: "Southwest 9", critically acclaimed Brit flick, "Football Factory", Danish movie "Pusher 2" & "It’s All Gone Pete Tong". Lol also scored the trailer for the bond movie "The World is Not Enough" where a speed boat chase down the River Thames ends with them crashing through the MI5 building at Vauxhall.
2006 sees Lol working on more film projects than ever with four movies in pipeline – "Heroes and Villains" a romantic comedy set in London featuring a score by Roger Eno and tracks by The Charlatans , Siobhan Fahey, Alucidnation and Lol himself. "Dirty Sanchez" a feature length movie with the brilliant 4 Welsh hell raisers from MTV/Channel 4, "Filth" a movie adaptation of the classic Irvine Welsh novel, and finally "Was", a psychological thriller set in New York .
Lol now records under his own name. His latest release was the ‘Piano Lessons EP’, which followed the ambient classic ‘All This Is Bliss’ (both on Big Chill Recordings ). There was a collaboration with the incredibly gifted Roger Eno, titled ‘Damaged’, released on the All Saints label in 1999. There is also a collaboration with Roger’s brother, the legendary producer/ambient guru, Brian Eno in the can and ready to go.
Lol now combines DJ’ing all over the world, music supervision, writing and productionm with fatherhood. You would think that the birth of his first son, Arthur, in 2005, might have mellowed Lol or dented his enthusiasm for a party, but in inimitable style, when interviewed at The Big Chill Festival for a reaction to his festival DJ set, he gave a 4 word response that opens this biog – pure Lol…

Gigography
Too many to mention, but two in particular get Lol reminiscing.
"There was the festival which I helped to stage in Iceland in 1995, between two glaciers in the south of the island . We had Bjork (singing her whole set in Icelandic ) and the mighty Prodigy on the bill . We took over Bobby Gillespie and Andrew Innes from Primal Scream to play there first ever dj gig. This is in effect where they formed the DJ outfit The Scream Team. As one half of the "Drum Club" we took to the stage at midnight on the Friday night . The vibe was amazing, an incredible setting with all the people holding fire-lit torches, the soundsystem was wicked the whole thing seemed very pagan and exciting!!!!
Then there was the show at the amphitheatre in Nimes in the gorgeous south of France . The amphitheatre is the second largest in Europe, after Rome’s Colessium. Roman gladiators used to fight there and they fed christians to the lions. The vibe in this amazing biulding was electric. Again, as part of the "Drum Club" we were on the bill with the awesome "Orbital" and Steve Hillage’s seminal act ‘System 7 ‘. Six and half thousand people going crazy , state of the art soundsystem and lights including the most incredible cutting edge lasers – you don’t forget nights like this in a hurry!
