NANCY WALLACE – ARTIST PROFILE
February 27th, 2006 by rui
Nancy Wallace was born to the sound of a concertina, and from the age of five could be found playing in the folk clubs of Suffolk. After a stint as a trombonist in an electric ceilidh band, she moved to London and could be found selling sheet music for a living whilst dabbling in numerous and varied musical projects.
Following a brief period of hibernation she was lured into singing with The Memory Band, where her classic folk voice and fingerstyle guitar found a happy home. She appears on both the eponymous debut album and the forthcoming release ‘Apron Strings’.
When not making music with The Memory Band, she is carving a distinct niche for herself with her own material, arrangements of traditional folk songs and her unique acoustic takes on classic disco songs, as heard on her debut solo EP, “Young Hearts”, which was released in December 2005 to rave reviews:
“Single of the Week by miles”
Rough Trade Record Shops
“A star in the English Tradition”
Dazed & Confused Magazine
