MEDIA MIX – FIRST LINE-UP ANNOUNCEMENT

May 5th, 2006 by

MEDIA MIX - FIRST LINE-UP ANNOUNCEMENTFrom comedy to cabaret, from drama to drag, from film to filth, 2006 sees the Big Chill’s most adventurous and exciting line-up of cross art entertainment yet.

We are delighted to announce the appearance of the spectacular Blue Man Group. Exclusive to the Big Chill and hot from their run at The New London Theatre, The Blue Man Group will perform at their first ever UK festival giving two performances in the Media Mix on Saturday 5th August.

The same day offers cutting edge comedy from Perrier Award winner Matthew Holness who will be introducing his latest creation, folk guitarist Merriman Weir, a substantial departure from his previous incarnation as Garth Marenghi (Channel 4). He will be joined by the legendary Arthur Smith, the equally legendary comic poet John Hegley and ´the rising star of women’s comedy’ (Evening Standard) Jo Caulfied.

But that is not all there is to laugh about, from 11.30 to the early hours of Friday and Saturday the Big Chill will be providing you with some strictly x-rated ‘Adult’ entertainment…Ooo. The Whoopee Club strip off and will be going all the way with Tableaux Vivant, Amber Topaz and The Whoopee Beaux Belles to name a few. Better Chemistry’s Twisted Cabaret will be offering up some eye watering s & m, Jonny Trunk will be airing his Dirty Fan Male and Buzzard Buzzard will be doing unmentionable things with pole dancers. There will be some full-on film action too from Halloween and Birds Eye View. Following that you might feel the need to vent your excitement and exercise your vocal chords with Pornaoke! hosted by Perrier award-winning comic Harry Ainsworth, the title says it all…

There is a very full programme of film, film rescores and audio visual Performance. DJ King Britt will be introducing and live scoring his film about his recent muse Sister Gertrude Morgan, Sundaze Animat will rescore Belleville Rendezvous, DJ Oof brings his Cinemix to the UK for the first time, D-fuse have some audio visual treats. More experimental work comes in the form of Mr_Hopkinson’s Computer, an animated face on a laptop, plugged into an amp singing unique renditions of eighties and nineties indie classics. We’ll see too some crazy visual circuit bending from DIN and Dan Tombs.

The film programme is packed, with short films and videos compiled by Halloween Film Society, Mash, Kino, Bluescreen, Birds Eye View, Portobello Film Festival and Loop (New Zealand). Feature length films include Jim Jarmusch’s Coffee and Cigarettes, the filthy joke documentary The Aristocrats, John Shuttleworth’s It’s Nice Up North and legendary creator of This Is Spinal Tap’s and The Best In Show Christopher Guest’s mockumentary about the world of folksingers, A Mighty Wind…

We’ve got dance from Divine Company and a little gem of a set from Guy Pratt- My Bass & Other Animals. Think of all the major bands of the last thirty years, you name them Guy has played bass with them. Here he takes you on an hilarious journey from teenage bedroom to packed rock stadium. Armed only with bass guitar he tells frankly unbelievable but true tales of life with Pink Floyd, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Roxy Music and madness of the 80′s music.

There is more to come too, a very cool line-up of spoken word performers and authors will soon be revealed for Words In Motion. We have debates in store, and you can do your bit with some letter writing with Amnesty.

Watch out for additions to the programme·

We’ve got the music and we’ve got all this besides!
