FUNKY JIM & DR EM – ARTIST PROFILE
June 6th, 2006 by rui
Dr Em (SoxaN) and Funky Jim (All Time Top 100) have a shared passion for Brazilian music, mojitos and maracas.
They’ve never been to South America, and the only Rio they know comes from East London. But their ‘Partido del Mundo’ residency has been bringing a Carioca flavour to the Big Chill Bar every month for well over a year.
“Grooves like these really hit the spot every time,” says Dr Em. “People start tapping their feet and swinging their hips… they just can’t help it! And we love that. Actually, we love the whole thing that goes with it too.”
Funky Jim agrees: “Yeah, it’s really just an excuse to wear tight t-shirts and dance around…”
These DJs mix anything with a Brazilian twist — from boogaloo funk and nu-bossa right up to full-tilt samba rhythms. Expect a carnival when they close the Finlandia Cocktail Bar at Eastnor on Friday (10pm-12pm).
