THE ENCHANTED GARDEN
June 21st, 2006 by rui
We have opened part of the Ancient Arboretum at Eastnor Castle Deer Park to create a new Enchanted Garden at The Big Chill. Set among 3.5 acres dotted with 300 year old trees, The Enchanted Garden combines the Art Trail and a new outdoor Sanctuary stage to offer a daytime space to retreat to, relax in, or simply lay on the grass listening to the music of Eva Abraham, Digitonal, Andrew Cronshaw, Hanne Hukkelberg, Roger Eno, Lol Hammond and many more – as they explore the more contemplative regions of traditional and electronic music.
A full bar as well as tea and food stalls provide refreshments to help to keep you fed and watered throughout the day and evening.
After dark, the Art Trail comes to life. A series of interactive, site-specific installations from respected contemporary artists – headed up by Brian Eno’s multimedia piece 77 Million Paintings – a UK festival début, with many more art announcements to come.
While evening sets from the likes of Psapp, Kieran Hebden & Steve Reid, Nathan Fake and Lawrence extend the experimental atmosphere, the installations dotted around the Art Trail will encourage night time exploration.
A small festival experience within the wider range of entertainment that is The Big Chill, an evolutionary return to The Big Chill’s roots. It all sounds like The Enchanted Garden experience Big Chillers remembered from the early days of The Big Chill, so that’s just what we have called it – The Enchanted Garden.
There were lengthy discussions with English Nature to open up this Site of Special Scientific Interest and let Big Chillers connect even more with the local environment, and we wish to thank English Nature for trusting the Big Chill audience to use the space among the ancient trees.
