Unabombers Electrik SouthThe Unabombers begin their brand new London residency at the Big Chill House on 20th January. We catch up with the Unabombers to find out more…

What’s your night called?
Unabombers Electrik South

Who are you?
We are Luke and Justin from Manchester.

What have you been up to, before this residency?
we have been slowly but surely building our vibe in Manchester and UK over the last 12 years. We have not attempted to fast track anything. We do everything by Osmosis and gradually evolve rather than sprint – which is probably why we have just finished our first artist album together due for release in June.

What’s the music policy for your Unabombers Electrik South?
Essentially we play music with the soul and the funk across all the genres, so literally from hip-hop to disco and boogie, house, techno, outsider pop and all good music with the feeling.

Who has played, or is going to play at your residency?
We’ll be bringing the people we love and respect from the underground that have taken the roof off at Electric Chair over the last 12 years. So, people from every type of scene.

If money was no object, and you could book any line-up of DJs and bands living or dead, who would play?

Room 1
Nick Drake, Electric Prunes, The Beatles, Johnny Cash, Chic, Minnie Riperton, Silver Apples, Marvin Gaye, Missy Elliot, Lee Scratch Perry, Prince

Room 2
Harvey, Theo Parrish, Larry Levan, Maurice Faulton, Moonboots,
Milo And The Wildbunch

Room 3
Winston Hazel, Derek Carter, Chris Duckenfield

ROOM 4
Hewan Clark, Colin Curtis, Paul Murphy, Gilles Peterson, Ashley
Beedle

What are your current top 5 tunes?
Type & J.B – The P.L (Root Elevation)
Ty & Pharoahe Monch – Push (Universal)
J-Dilla – Workinonit (Donuts LP) (Stones Throw)
Kraak & Smaak No Sun In The Sky (Henrik Schwarz Mix) (Jalepeno)
Amp Fiddler – Faith (Jazzanova Remix) (Genuine)

What do you think of The Big Chill House?
We’ve not been there yet but have only heard positive things. Generally for northerners Londinium is somewhere you venture from Manchester to buy your girlfriend a red dress.

What three things would your ideal bar have to have?
Good sound
Great music policy
Good people

I’m just on my way to the bar – what I get you?
Pretty much most of the top shelf and a pint of Landlord as well whilst you’re there. PS. No lager tops you southern shandy drinking bastards!

Ideal evening chilling at home?
With my woman, curtains shut, snow falling and blowing a gale outside, wood-burning stove roaring, 30 cans of stella, roast dinner, wine, large duvet, phone off, and watching Elf, Twin Town and Planet Earth.

Ideal evening chilling out?
Out for a meal early evening, and coming home and doing the above with the added enjoyment of sexual intercourse throughout.

Favourite places?
Pennines between Manchester and Sheffield
Southern Goa
Marrakesh and atlas mountains, morocco
Grasmere
Isle of skye
Nick and eddies gaff in zadar, croatia
Barcelona

What are you reading these days?
Sadly, Heat-type magazines, this is quite tragic since i used to be a really big reader. I don’t know what’s happened to me, probably the same reason i watch Jeremy Kyle, its that whole car crash thing. It’s deeply wrong.

What are you working on at present?
The Elektrons new album, which is 100% all consuming and has been he conclusion of soaking up our love of music from everything and everywhere over the last 20 years.

What would most like to achieve over the next five years?
To continue working with music in whatever format and to still love it the way we do now. To still have a full fridge, good health and to be constantly creative even if the outcome isn’t necessarily everyone’s cup of tea.

What would you like to see change most in the world over the next five years?
Well if that was a genuine request it would be to make the world run on good will, love, respect and helping each other rather than money, greed and hatred.

Highlight of your life?
Sat in Croatia watching the sun come down.

At a festival – tent, B&B, or hotel for you, and why?
Hotel, ive become a right old twat and cant deal with a sweaty two-man tent. Sorry I need a bath and a bed.

What was your Top Big Chill moment?
DJing on the Friday night with Justin and meeting all our old friends and comrades, a very spiritual weekend, just don’t mention the laughing gas or vagisil for fucks sake, that’s a long, dark story.

Describe the essence of The Big Chill in a few words…
Intimate, proper, special, for the soul.
