Festival favourites

April 27th, 2007 by

Festival favouritesThe line-up is important, and the beautiful location provides a perfect backdrop, but sometimes it’s the smaller drtails that make the weekend. Big Chill favourites returning this year include…

Posh Nosh
When the Chill started, we baked our own flapjacks. Why? Because we wanted to make sure they tasted the best. Now we select stalls because they are passionate about the food they serve. Stinky burgers and greasy stir-fry? No way. We’re thinking dining-table size pans of seafood paella; Indian thalis served in gazebos with cosy cushions; the finest olives; sushi on ice; freshly squeezed juice; summer fruit smoothies; a global feast of vegan, vegetarian and organic menus.

Keeping it local
To cut food miles and ensure freshness, we’ll be bringing in local produce for the vendors. Every day. That’s local food. From local farms. Farms you could walk to from our festival. There will also be a farmer’s market on the Village Green. Also on offer will be local cider and real ales.

Cocktails
Long-time Big Chillers will know classy cocktails have always been part of the mix. Again for 2007 we will have a selection of cocktail bars on site.

The Dub Shack + 24 hour café
It’s a café; it’s a rum bar and it plays the widest, phattest dub-reggae-ska tunes. Yes, eat, drink, dance, chill all in the one space. It opens 24 hours and pipes in Big Chill Radio when the reggae finishes at 2am.

Village Green
The legendary Saturday afternoon ceilidh with The Old Swan Band, a mini farmers market selling produce from local farmers and plenty of action including capoeira and the chillers spaces.

Take Me Home Sessions
This is serious chillin’ and on a giant scale. The festival’s ‘after hours’ is a perfect end to the day where
you can wind down with your fellow chillers to some of
the finest downtempo music you will ever hear.

Big Chill Radio
Camping check list: tent, sleeping bag, suntan lotion…radio. Tune-in to the festival’s 24-hour station. That’s some 100 hours of ambient and eclectica, interviews, features, festival info and live music. Provides a pukka soundtrack for your campsite – doze off to lazy tunes in the wee hours; then wake up with a breakfast show that lasts ’til lunchtime.

Dressing-Up Box
Whether you’re a toddler or a granny, drag queen or a mad-for-it partier, our teamof hairdressers, costumiers and make-up artistes will help you create your ‘look’. There is no dress code…spacesuits, Victoriana, ballgowns, tutus, pink wigs, silver platforms. Hire it here. Or combine with the crazy outfits we encourage you to bring with you. Live your costume fantasy!
