The Jupiter Quartet

The Jupiter Quartet was founded in 1994 when members of the well-known Merlion Quartet joined musicians from the Berlin Classical Players. Since then, the quartet has performed over 100 concerts all over Germany, Italy, Switzerland and England, gaining many enthusiastic supporters in the high brow Berlin media who say "there’s no other ensemble of such an outstanding range of musical styles and colours." This praise has led to a wealth of broadcast work throughout Germany and invitations to play further afield in Asia, Australia and America.
The quartet’s goal has always been to perform in unusual and exciting places outside the “classical world” and with this ethos in mind they have played at the famous "Nation of Gondwana" rave in Germany and with the medieval group "Corvus Corax" at the big Heavy-Metal festival in Wacken, North Germany.
This summer will see their performance with Future Loop Foundation at the Big Chill Festival (as well as two solo performances) and many concerts throughout Germany, encompassing all areas of classical and popular music.
For the members of Jupiter (all of whom work as leading instrumentalists in Berlin and Brandenburg orchestras) their philosophy has not changed or wavered from day one:
“The cultural knowledge of over 200 years of classical music needs to be brought to the people, who love music, but don’t want to go to the Albert Hall!”
