Benji B – Biography
A highly influential underground DJ, Benji B presents his ‘Deviation’ radio show on the BBC’s 1xtra every Thursday night. He blends tunes from all genres of underground music – broken beat, hip-hop, house, garage, jazz, soul or Detroit techno – with the soulful element the glue that holds it together.
At the age of 16 Benji started producing Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show, on Kiss FM, a role which he continued when the show moved to Radio 1, a position which saw him becoming the UK’s youngest producer making shows for a national station. The show went on to win gold at the Sony Radio Academy Awards in 1999.
