A labour of love twelve months (and some forty years) in the making, ‘Fab Gear’ is a collection of groovy hits and rarities from the flower power era of the late 60’s. Compiled and re-mastered by Big Chill co-founder, and conceptualist, Pete Lawrence, this double CD is full of sounds as vibrant as anything on offer at the moment. Just as these tracks struck a chord in the changing world of the 1960’s, their relevance can be felt today, as the much maligned social shifts instigated in the original ‘Summer of Love’, are adopted by a new generation, four decades on.
Drawing inspiration from his pre-teen childhood nights spent under the bedclothes, listening to the illegal offshore pirate radio stations such as London and Caroline, Pete has created a track-list that reflects the ethos of the baby boomer generation, a time in which ‘everything seemed that little bit more utopian and magical, and all about trying to make a better world’. Ultimately, it’s feel good music, strong on melody, unsurpassed in harmony…and invariably uplifting in lyrical content.
