Brick Lane Festival
September 13th, 2007 by sparky
A big thank you to all who came to The Big Chill Bar on Sunday 9th of September for the Brick Lane Festival. We opened the doors at 12 noon, and both the bar and terrace were heaving well into the evening, when sadly it was time to say goodnight. It was a fantastic day, and we’ve had glowing reports from all involved, from the bar staff, DJ’s, and the customers.
We’ve borrowed Norman Jay’s write up of the festivities from www.normanjay.com
"Big Chill Bar = unbelieveable scenes!!
I’m not an alcohol drinker so I don’t go into bars that much and if I’m really honest – like to play at them even less. Mainly because more often than not the in-house sound system is frustratingly never up to the job and secondly, because I prefer to play club spaces where there is always a designated dancefloor. But in the last week or so I’ve experienced not one, but TWO brilliant exceptions to this rule. Read on…
The wild scenes inside (and outside) the Big Chill bar at the Brick Lane Festival on Sunday afternoon was nothing short of PHENOMENAL!!! The place had completely ‘lost it’ during my two hour lunchtime set. Big Chill??!! do me a favour – big RAVE more like LOL! I can’t recall EVER witnessing such scenes of pure unadulterated joy and wild abandon inside a bar much less a club. At times it resembled a mini Southern Row or Eastnor in there. An absolutely stonkin’ afternoon of great choonage and good people over in E1. I staggered out of there after my set at 4pm almost in a state of total shock after what I’d just experienced. Incredible scenes. I would loved to have stayed longer but had to dash off (as per usual) to do my radio show on BBC London at six o’clock.

As one of our correspondents has already alluded to – last year’s BCB session was packed and went off but THIS year? Where did all those people come from? Maybe it was off the back of my recent (and very successful) Shake & Fingerpop night at the Westbury – another very cool bar – or was it just a lot of people suffering a post Carnival come down (like me) who still wanted to experience that special Good Times feeling one last time before the onset of winter and those early dark nights. It could well be a combination of ALL those factors who knows. I just can’t put my finger on it.
For everyone who attended – big shout out to ALL the diggers who showed in force – thanks again for making sunday afternoon a truly special day to remember. That party will go down as one of THE parties of 2007 I’m sure. See you there next year!"
