The Big Chill presents a new film by Semiconductor reflecting the rapid transforming of the Kings Cross area. Semiconductor capture this moment in human history by devising a process where through ‘Time Out of Place’ we see the past, present and future simultaneously. This act of seeing time reveals a different visual landscape than we are custom to, as the multiple patterns of motion emerge to reveal a new rhythm to the city. Semiconductor make stunning, cutting-edge digital artworks in the form of sound-films, music videos and live animation. Guided by obsessive interests in architecture, geography and artificial life forms, they explore the potential of the computer to unite sound and image. Semiconductor approach each project from a fresh angle, always looking to extend themselves as artists and break new ground. Their groundbreaking film ‘Earthmoves’ was shown on the hill behind the main stage as part of this year’s festival Art Trail. They have exhibited in galleries, at International festivals and have been artists in residence at the NASA Space Sciences Laboratory UCB.

Red Snapper
Red Snapper reformed earlier this year and played a dazzling gig at this year’s festival. The Big Chill has brought them together with Semiconductor to create their own version of the ‘Time Out of Place’ soundtrack. They will perform their score live at the opening party on Wednesday 14th November. Red Snapper are known for their music’s filmic quality and have worked with many Directors and video artists, finding the translation of film into music a fascinating process. Red Snapper began working their dirty jam of hip hop/jazz and rockabilly with sax player Alan Riding creating 3 Eps with Flaw Recordings and then joined Warp Records. Ali Friend (double bass), Richard Thair (drums) and David Ayres (guitar) have a reputation as inventive and pioneering remixers including working with Garbage, Ken Ishii and David Holmes. Collaborations with Byron Wallen, Allison David, Karim Kendra, MC Det and latterly Jake Williams put their live performances on the map for proving that drum and bass and hip hop really could be played live. Red Snapper released 5 albums from 1995-2001. They have realised there is unfinished business and so are calling again on their love of stripped down instrumental beauty and chaos and are currently working on a new album.
