Big Chill Recordings set for Bloomsbury
October 18th, 2007 by rui
Big Chill Recordings’ Lol Hammond, Leggo Beast and Alucidnation all perform at The Foundling Museum on Saturday 20th October, as part of The Bloomsbury Festival.
Bloomsbury Festival
For the second year running, the streets and buildings of Bloomsbury will come alive with a host of events and activities from the area’s contemporary creative organisations. Following the success of last year, the 2007 Festival will offer a superb programme packed with music, dance, theatre, film, photography, literature and debate.
Highlights will include the return of breathtaking aerial theatre company Scarabeus with a new, mixed media site specific performance spectacular; a Literary Garden Party with bookstalls from around the area and readings from Bloomsbury writers in partnership with Faber and Faber; haunting performances from Horse Hospital artists in St George’s churchyard; and unique collaborations between folk, jazz, hip hop and classical musicians on the stage.
Foundling Museum
Fifteen contemporary artists from the East of England have been invited to create works inspired by the art and social history collections at London’s Foundling Museum. Their responses - including a cascade of kinetic sculpture, a wallpaper of children’s names, and a lollipop opera based on Handel’s Foundling Anthem - will be on show in a seven-week exhibition, curated by Gill Hedley.
The RSVP artists are participants on Arts Council England East’s Escalator Visual Arts programme, initiated and developed by Commissions East.
The Foundling Hospital was originally created as a home for abandoned children by philanthropist Thomas Coram. It also became London’s first public gallery, thanks to the inspiration of the artist William Hogarth, one of the founding governors. Now, nearly two centuries later, the Foundling Museum is again bringing new artists to our attention.
