Africa gave birth to the blues. Blues begat jazz. Jazz spawned funk. And funk was, is and always will be James Brown!
In the 70s this musical evolution came full circle as a generation of African artists were moved to the groove by the Godfather of Funk. To celebrate this legacy in a world exclusive, the legendary Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley have formed a pan-continental soul/funk supergroup. As cornerstones of James Brown’s seminal line-up Pee Wee Ellis (sax) and Fred Wesley (trombone) laid down the foundations of funk. Many years (and myriad hip-hop samples) later, they reunited (with Maceo Parker) as The JB Horns. With their stiletto-sharp horn arrangements and sinuous grooves, they defined the funk agenda.
The stellar line-up for Eastnor includes contemporary jazz and funk crusaders (from Tony Remy to Wunmi) and top-flight African musicians including Cameroonian sax giant Manu Dibango, Senegalese superstar Cheikh Lô and Afro-beat pioneer Tony Allen. Together with DJ John Warr (Afrobase) they get on the good foot and offer up some heaven-sent soul-satisfaction.
