Gutter Snipes – Biography
Gutter Snipes (Dave Norton & Matt Wright) have a love of music and a history that goes back. Hailing from Manchester, Dave’s involvement in music goes back to the days of the early 90′s where he was DJ’ing at various successful funk clubs including The Planet, South and Cubop alongside Mike Chadwick (Jazz FM) and Guy Morley (Big Chill, Yam Yam, Totally Radio). Matt came to Cardiff at the millennium to do a degree in animation. Matt took up the drums aged 13, and began experimenting with electronic sounds shortly afterwards. They both met when Dave, who is also an actor, asked Matt to appear in one of his short films.
Now based in Wales and working from their AFS studio, their passion over the years for African, Latin, Folk, Soul and Electronic music is clearly heard in their first release. Counting amongst their inspirations seminal artists such as Milton Nascimento, Gil Scott-Heron and 4hero, their first EP on Parousia Music is a testament to their love of many styles of music and each track demonstrates their talent for creating music with a hybrid of acoustic and electronic sounds: gelling together a variety of instruments, vocals and skillful drum programming.
