The Sunrise Big Chill Ethical Fashion Pant Riot
August 18th, 2008 by sparkyAt the finale of the Sunrise Big Chill Ethical Fashion show – Pants To Poverty took to the stage en masse wearing ethical pants and vegetarian shoes made by Brighton’s very brilliant Beyond Skin (vegetarian shoes www.beyondskin.co.uk) and busting some pretty serious moves to boot.
Ben Ramsden founded Pants To Poverty after several years working at Amnesty International and launched the Pants To Poverty brand as part of The Make Poverty History Campaign.
Ben is on a mission to rid the world of ‘bad pants’ and by that he means pants made in sweatshops, pants made with dubious dyes that give you cancer, pants manufactured in an unsustainable way poisoning the land or using too much water.
Pants Against Poverty Pants however are only made using organic cotton, in a fair trade environment. If you click on the THINK link on the Pants To Poverty website (www.pantstopoverty) you can read more and I promise you, you will never view your or anyone else’s smalls in quite the same way.
We are all concerned with pesticide use in food production but seem to be largely oblivious to the chemicals that are being used in our clothing. Pants To Poverty make great pants that are, in their own words ‘beautiful from grain to groin’.
The finale was a complete riot with Ben’s massive Pant Gun prematurely miss-firing backstage, sending a burst of pants flying in all directions. Leading those of us who were there and of a nervous disposition to skip around high speed flying pants. For those of you who were unlucky to miss
the spectacular fashion and pant fest you can view some pics taken by the fantastic Gabriel Avalon here and at www.festivalimage.com.
With special thanks to Sydney and the Aveda team for all of their hard work and help with the ethical fashion show.
