Main Squeeze at The Big Chill House

October 1st, 2008 by

Brand new hip hop night Main Squeeze kicked it hard once again at their 3rd night at the Big Chill House on Friday 17th October, with Radio 1 mash-up supremo Jaguar Skillz gracing the decks alongside DMC finalist Asian Hawk. We caught up with one half of the residents, Boba Fatt to see wha’gwaan…

OK, tell us a little bit about yourselves…

We are a pair of hip hop loving DJs called Mo Fingaz and DJ Boba Fatt.

We’ve both been spinning beats, breaks & basslines, in all manner of venues & guises, across the UK since the early 90′s. We met each other on the Bath / Bristol club scene, where we worked with each other a lot over the years. Mo was a member of The Snugs DJ collective (Freestyle Records) & co-promoted club night ‘Friday Night Chicken Shack’, whilst I won a mix competition on BBC 1Xtra & was the promoter of Hip Hop night, ‘StoneGruve Social’, amongst other stuff. Coincidentally, we both moved to London over the last year, which is where we met up again & where we decided to set-up ‘Main Squeeze’.

What have you got coming up for us at the Big Chill House?

Basically, classic block party hip hop goodness! So far Kiss FM’s DJ MK & party favourites The Nextmen have done their thing, with Radio 1’s Jaguar Skillz and DMC finalist Asian Hawk are up next to rock the spot.

Beyond that, it’s all about getting a whole bunch of superbad DJ’s & artists to play boom bap party tracks from back in the day to present day, with occasional slabs of swingbeat, soul, reggae and basslines thrown up in there. Whatever works on the night really – there’s a lot of serious heads-down hip hop nights, we don’t really want to part of that.

If money was no object, give us your dream line up – dead or alive.

Biggie, James Brown, Public Enemy, Stevie Wonder, A Tribe Called Quest, Sharon Jones & The Dapkings, The Roots, DJ Premier, Cash Money, Terminator X , Jazzy Jeff and Prince.
