Biography
Paris, November 1995: a hegemony of house music reigned. The dj had become bigger than John Lennon, who in turn was bigger than Jesus. Dance floors were saturated with syncopated, bad disco and we became very bored indeed…
Enter Dj Gringo da Parada: antithesis of the ‘super dj’ creating a kaleidoscopic soundscape mirroring the vibrant eclecticism of the Brazilian Favelas.
Working with Tchiky Al Dente and Mr Zero, Radio Favela was conceived, shortly followed by the Favela Chic Postonove compilation, which explores the Brazilian musical diaspora with the same panache for eclecticism. Meanwhile, Fla Flu Productions, the Favela Chic label, released Seu Jorges’ CRU, produced by Gringo Da Parada, to massive critical and commercial success.
In addition, Voltair, a live project and the brainchild of Tchicky Al Dente and Mr Zero had flowered, a bass heavy, beat driven cocktail of Samba, Soul and Hip-hop recorded with some of Brazils’ most respected MC’s such as Papo Reto and Menor de Chapa, debut pending…
In London Jimmy Jeans and Ross Clarke became residents joining Gringo at Radio Favela London. The seamless mix of Baile Funk, Brit Pop, Bossa and stupidity never heard before in Shoreditch.
As well as the beautiful sounds of the four Postonove Long Players, Tchiky and Monsieur Boo have bridged tht gap between Baltimore, Bahia and the Banlieue with Clek Clek Boom the latest bastard cousin of Favela Chic.
