The Gist was formed by Stuart Moxham, following his debut in post- punk/minimalist band Young Marble Giants, the first single appearing on the racks in December of 1980. Like YMG, it was a one-album affair,
“Embrace the Herd” being released in May 1981, followed by a couple more singles.
Reviewed favorably, the record shared a similar knack for dynamic but understated arrangements and, like YMG’s “Colossal Youth”, has been in print ever since, the latest release being on Cherry Red Records in 2008.

Amazing to see this flag flying again! And what excellent timing, for a return to form from Mr Prolific - But - Underexposed himself, as his wonderful album “The Huddle House” has just secured a European deal with Maquis Records in Paris.
(Of course the recent rebirth of Young Marble Giants as a gigging band helps too….)
Featuring brother, fellow YMG-er and long-time musical sidekick, Andrew Moxham on drums and the ineffable Louis Philippe on guitar and harmony vocals, this manifestation of The G!st promises summery mellowness with songs ranging from ‘81-’09, including the Rough Trade classic “Love At First Sight” and a trove of melodic and upbeat tunes for the pleasantly refreshed, thinking rock fan’s dancing feet!
