British Sea Power play “high-church amplified rock music” and are based in East Sussex. Their 2003 debut album The Decline Of British Sea Power saw them declared “The best band in Britain” by The Sunday Times. BSP were given the award for Best Live Band Of 2004 at the Time Out Awards. The 2005 album Open Season saw the band building on an international reputation, with shows from St Petersburg to the Chelsea Flower Show. The band’s latest album, 2008’s ‘Do You Like Rock Music?’, was nominated for the Nationwide Mercury Prize and became the bands first Top 10 LP.
2008 saw the band continue to develop their reputation for playing out of the ordinary - from the Czech Embassy, through their own mini-festival at the highest pub in England at Tan Hill in Yorkshire, to churches, caves, ferries, islands and a tribute to John Betjeman with Nick Cave in front of Charles & Camilla (and Ronnie Corbett, Stephen Fry, Hugh Grant, Joanna Lumley, Barry Humphries).
In May 2009, BSP release their all-new soundtrack to the 1934 film Man Of Aran - as a combined DVD/CD package. This will be premiered at THE BFI on April 23rd and then, after a performance on the Isles of Aran the UK festival exclusive performance will take place at this year’s Big Chill festival on Thursday August 6th.
