The festival starts Thursday 6th August!

Get ready to make it a long Big Chill weekend this year, because we’ll be opening the festival gates at 10am on Thursday 6th August! That evening, courtesy of the BFI, the Mercury Award nominated British Sea Power will be performing a UK festival exclusive on the Open Air Stage, as they re-score both the classic Man Of Aran, as well as providing a soundtrack to scenes from Jacques Perrin’s breathtakingly beautiful Winged Migration.

Meanwhile, the dead will walk the earth once more, as Film4 and Warp Films not only take you to, but also give you a chance to be in the movies. On Thursday they’ll be attempting an entry into the Guinness Book of Records, by shooting the world’s first and largest audience participation zombie movie. Over the next few months we’ll be giving you some undead fashion tips so you can be a part of this celluloid chiller. And to get you in the mood, Film4 will also be hosting an evening of classic zombie flicks in Big Chill Nights, to help you acquire a taste for braaains.

Over the rest of the festival, Film4 will also be bringing us The Dereliction Drive-In – deserted and abandoned cars (post-zombie attack?) among, on and in which Chillers may roam, sit and crash out. While screens play ghostly remixes of classic and imagined road movies, car stereos will crackle with soundtracks specially recorded by guest artists and DJs.

We’re also proudly unveiling the all new Film4 Cinema Tent, where a programme of super cool road movies will accompany the Dereliction Drive-In installation and, hot on the heels of their award winning success with Slumdog Millionaire, the Film4 programmers will be bringing you a night of classic Bollywood and Bollywood-inspired films, with dance classes during the day, so everyone can don their salwar kameez and cut some shapes in front of the silver screen.

The Film4 Cinema Tent will also be home to The ICA and the BFI, both returning to The Big Chill for a second year running. They’ll be bringing you more fabulous feature length and short films, as well as live scores and talks, taking the 40th anniversary of the moon landing, as well as the International Year of Astronomy as their inspiration.

All this and we’ve still got even more exciting plans for Thursday at this year’s festival to be unveiled soon!
