Movimientos
Movimientos is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of Latin culture in the UK and beyond. Through events it aims to support the emerging and established artists at the heart of the Latin music scene as well as providing a platform for political/social documentaries on Latin America and the organisations that promote awareness or campaign on issues relating to the continent. Movimientos runs two regular events in London – a documentary film and DJ / music night at the Salmon and Compass, and a live Latin music & cultural night at the Notting Hill Arts Club and are always on the lookout for new films, film makers, music, musicians, performance artists, poets, photographers, DJs, activists or other like minded individuals or groups to co-operate or particpate in our events.DJ
Cal Jader
As part of the Movimientos collective DJ Cal Jader pioneers the freshest Latin alternative and cutting edge global dance-floor beats. With the jammed out monthly sessions at the Salmon and Compass (RIP), a live Latin night at the Notting Hill Arts Club, regular live events at Cargo, Passing Clouds, & Camino Movimientos are revitalising the London scene.
From folkloric to electronic, Cal’s sets provide Global, Tropical & Latin rhythms with a universal appeal. Cal has DJ’d for a nationwide Cuban Hip Hop tour, at festivals including Glastonbury and Rise Festival, and alongside Manu Chao and Radio Bemba, Ojos de Brujo’s DJ Panko & Mexico’s No1 DJ Toy Selectah. International radio and club appearances have included spots in Australia, New Zealand, Istanbul, Lebanon, and Slovenia. Cal and Movimientos have been at the forefront of the rebirth of Cumbia in the UK playing it’s more traditional form alongside the modern fusions with Urban Latin, Reggae, and digital sounds.
MC Clem George
As a consummate host and vibes man Clem George has been MCing, DJing and causing mayhem on the Latin scene for the last 15 years. Alongside Cal Jader and the rest of the Movimientos crew Clem has been pushing a distinct brand of Musica Latina Clandestina that favours downright funky dance-floor beats and underground genres of Latin music.
