15 x 15 Vol. 2 (Festival Frolics All Year Round)

December 4th, 2009 by sparky

PrintFollowing on from the rip -roaring success of 15 x 15 (A Celebration of 15 Years Of The Big Chill), The Big Chill Label are proud to announce the digital release of 15 x 15 vol 2 (Festival Frolics All Year Round). Like its predecessor, 15 x 15 vol 2 is in aid of The Big Issue with all profits going to The Big Issue Foundation. Also, like the original 15 x 15, the theme of 15 bo-selectors choosing 15 top tunes is continued. On 15 x 15 vol 2 however the emphasis is on The Big Chill venues and emerging music, DJs and promoters. The original 15 x 15 looked at classic tunes that represented The Big Chill Festival over the last decade and a half, featuring tracks and selections by Orbital, Gilles Peterson, Mr Scruff, Norman Jay, The Orb and was a celebration of the festivals musical journey so far.

15 x 15 Vol 2 is more future forward in its approach and focuses on the year round ‘festival’ atmosphere that all The Big Chill venues have, be it The Big Chill Bar in Shoreditch, The Big Chill House in King’s Cross, or the newly opened Big Chill Bar in Bristol. As ever these venues provide a year round space for new talent, consistently supporting cutting edge music and DJs. 15 x 15 vol 2 unashamedly captures this unique musical culture. Big Chill House resident Count Skylarkin’ elaborates:

“The Big Chill itself has become an amazing part of my life. I first attended the festival in 2005 (after years of nagging from my best mate Peepshow Paddy) the pair of us were instantly inspired to return the following year in our purpose-built Disco Shed. Since then BCHQ have afforded The Disco Shed its constant support and encouragement, and made my clubnight (Skylarkin’ Soundsystem) very welcome in its London home at The Big Chill House”

With The Big Chill Bar Bristol opening, local promoters and DJs Futureboogie and Western Soul have come on board to give you all a flavour of what to expect from the new venue. Dave at Western Soul elaborates:

“Now that the Big Chill Bar is here in Bristol I wanted to choose a track that represented all the Bristol Chillers. I thought this track from these well known local casuals did the trick, especially as it features sublime vocals from Bristol’s own Hollie G. It’s got a great lazy beat and the quote is brilliant, maybe they should change it to ‘I got 35 Big Chill’s left’?”

15 x 15 vol 2 (Festival Frolics All Year Round) is a selection of Big Chill stylee top tunes that you can play in the privacy of your own home and frolic around to. It also has the added benefit of supporting one of the UK’s most important organisations, The Big Issue Foundation, who help homeless people to help themselves. There is no better way to keep warm and massage your conscience this winter than to rush out and download this sterling compilation. You know it makes sense!
