Stush at Hot Wuk

March 16th, 2010 by

stush_webHot Wuk is London’s biggest weekly dancehall night, with residents The Heatwave and Sticky playing the baddest bashment from Kingston to London. Forget about joining the gym – Hot Wuk is your weekly dancehall workout!

On Thursday 25th February Hot Wuk will host a live performance from Stush, one of the biggest female MCs in the UK.

Stush

Stush is the original bad gyal MC from south London, leading the UK’s formidable pack of female bashment vocalists. With recent mainstream press celebrating her unique style and delivery, she’s ready to blow up all over again.

After ten years tearing down raves around the world, Stush has built a reputation as one of London’s finest MCs. Her squeaky machine-gun flow is instantly recognisable over garage, house or bashment.

From starting out as a dancehall MC, Stush teamed up with garage legend Sticky in 2001 to produce the club smash Dollar Sign. Since then Stush has had a stream of big singles including top ten hit Get Low with Groove Armada and last year’s massive We Nuh Run alongside Hard House Banton.

Sticky

Richard ‘Sticky’ Forbes built his reputation as one of the country’s leading club music producers in the height of the UK Garage scene. His distinctive sound not only made his music unavoidable in the clubs during this era, but also launched the careers of a number of the UK’s leading talents including the Mercury Award-winning Ms Dynamite.

Sticky has had an endless numbers of club and chart hits featuring artists including Kele Le Roc, Stush, Tubby T and Twista. His remixes for the likes of Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Aaliyah, Sugababes, Hot Chip and Erykah Badu have consistently seen him scaling the heights of the club charts.

The Heatwave

Since 2003, The Heatwave crew have played at raves and festivals all over the world: from Fabric and FWD>> to Glastonbury, Germany and New York.

The Heatwave have laid the foundations for a UK dancehall revival with regular London nights and a constant stream of remixes, spearheading the trend which sees Jamaican music seeping into other genres and getting the shine it deserves.

With over 20,000 visits a month, TheHeatwave.co.uk is the place to go to keep up to date with latest music and worldwide bashment news. It is considered by many to be the home of UK dancehall.

The Heatwave have inspired crossover acts like Toddla T and Major Lazer to push dancehall into the mainstream. Major Lazer’s Diplo testifies to the power of the Heatwave sound, which in his words “runs dancehall in London”.

Now The Heatwave are moving into production, with releases on Soul Jazz Records and upcoming tracks featuring Natalie Storm, Serocee, YT and Warrior Queen. In 2009 The Heatwave kicked off a weekly show on Rinse FM, London’s top pirate radio station, to showcase the sound of London bashment.

From documenting the historical importance of British MCs on the Soul Jazz compilation An England Story to forecasting the future of UK/JA creativity with their pioneering Funky Bashment mix (broadcast on Radio 1), The Heatwave lead the way in showing the world how hot the English/Caribbean melting pot can get!
