April 30th, 2010 by

Brand new for 2010, The Igloo is a 360˚ fully immersive projection system that will surround you with stunning HD graphics and sound, all packaged up into a geodesic dome. Through the course of the weekend, The Igloo will play host to…

Solid Steel’s AV Special

solidsteel_sqEncompassing the leading lights in turntable AV tricknology and utilising the latest in Serato and Pioneer video performance tools, this Solid Steel AV special sees the Igloo turned into a multisensory entertainment experience.

Born from Ninja Tune’s famous Solid Steel radio show and club nights, this AV special takes it to another level with each artist performing a turntable video show, where sound and vision are inextricably linked…what you see is what you hear!

Each of these artists know how to move a crowd too, encompassing all genres of music, from hip-hop to rock, techno to breaks, drum and bass to dubstep, they will move your feet and free your eyes!

Hexstatic present Trailer Trax

trailer_trax1AV pioneers Hexstatic are old mates of ours – giggle-filled late night AV sets at The Enchanted Garden and dancier-strewn Club Tent shows at Eastnor have helped establish them as leading lights in the world where beats and pictures meet. But you won’t really care about any of that during their set – you’ll be too busy enjoying their perfectly synched mash-up of can’t-stand-still beats and laugh out loud clips.

DJ Food & DK

djfood_dkBack for another rollicking extravaganza of all things fun and funky are DJ Food and DK (or Kevin and Darren as they’re known to their mums). Together, they’ve been rocking dance floors worldwide with their incomparable eclectic mix of just about everything from Art of Noise to Z-Trip and at this year’s festival they’ll be adding a whole new visual dimension to their show.

DJ Woody’s Turntables in Technicolour

dj_woody_webWoody Madera (formally DJ Woody) is primarily known the World over as a DJ innovator having invented a host of groundbreaking scratch techniques, helped Vestax design the Worlds first ever musical turntable and obtaining 5 major UK and World DJ titles. This year at The Big Chill, aided by cutting edge technology, Woody will be bringing you Turntables In Technicolor, an all new, eye-popping, crowd-rocking AV DJ show designed to blow your mind and move your behind!

Sampology

sampology_webComing to a screen near you at The Big Chill is the new Audio Visual spectacular from AVDJ Sampology, for the Super Visual Smackdown!, Sampology takes a bunch of footage from TV, movies, the internet and far beyond, and creates a spectacular live audio visual performance using 2 turntables, a MPC drum machine and some very special video mixing software. Live camera feeds showcase all the action behind the decks, with special custom made Sampology animations featuring throughout the show.

JFB

jfb_webIn recent years the art of turntablism has spun off in myriad new directions, with techniques such as video scratching and instant sample creation representing a dramatic sea-change for the discipline. Few artists have been further to the fore of these fresh developments than Brighton’s JFB, a scratch DJ and party starter extraordinaire who won the UK DMC Championship in 2007.

Low Life’s 3D Disco

low_life21Low Life is a registered good time. Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton started throwing parties together in March 1995, in a big party-shaped Harlem brownstone full of freaks that Frank was living in. The Sound Factory had closed, people were moaning and it was a big success, helped by Jeffrey’s renowned cakes-under-glass, a 50-foot ‘ballroom’ and a sound system that gave the Nation of Islam across the road a run for their money. Several great NY nights followed.

We’re delighted that the Low Life crew of Bill Brewster, Frank Broughton and Michael Cook, alongside special guests Leggobeast and Shepdog, will be hosting a 3D disco in The Igloo.

Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton

Despite growing up in Lincolnshire only several cornfields apart, Bill and Frank met on the corner of Bond and Broadway in New York in 1994. Within a week they’d decided to write a book together on New York disco, having spent several nights trading club stories collected from Sound Factory veterans, Roxy drag queens, and a couple of ancient gay truckers from Jersey. Thanks to guidance from Doug Young at Headline, this idea greatly expanded its horizons and became 1999’s Last Night A DJ Saved My Life, the first book to trace the entire history of DJing.

In the wake of their magnum opus, Bill and Frank’s partnership led to further books, including best-selling DJ manual How To DJ (Properly), and a long-running series of professional house parties known as Low Life, plus of course this website. As well as their long-toothed experience as music journalists and magazine editors, both are DJs; Bill is also an experienced producer, remixer, chef, and catalogue consultant, and Frank has been known to be a senior digital creative in the world of advertising.

Michael Cook

Michael Cook was born in Weatherfield, just behind the Korner Kabin, some years ago. He began his career at the Rover’s Return with his own night, Betty’s Hot Pot, in 1965, before being whisked off to California to start acid house in 1967. Realising he’d arrived 20 years too early, he decided to start psychedelia instead before realising he’d missed that, too, by two years. To compensate he started playing records in clubs full of people dancing, something he has done quite a few times now. Some time ago, he moved back to the UK where he also plays records for people to dance to. He lives in extreme health near Archway.

Leggo Beast

leggobeastMurray Clark, the creator of the fantastically wild electro creature Leggo Beast is not a man to compromise. He is however someone who will make a definitive musical statement. Murray Clark was initially known as being one half of Bullitnuts signed to the seminal label Pork. During that time Bullitnuts, and then Leggo Beast released several 12 inches and were included on many compilations.

Shepdog

shepdogShepdog is a shameless bootlegger / deejay / promoter / drinker / wrestler / collector / part timer / ranter / moaner / banterer / waster / taster / shaker / money-taker / love-maker / winer / diner / 69er.

Quiet Voices

quietvoicesFollowing the success of Quiet Voices at TATE Britain in January, John Rixon (a.k.a. Amukidi) brings the show to Eastnor for a blissfull Sunday night chill-in. Using 360 degree projection in the Igloo, the space will be submerged in down-tempo and ambient sounds, and bathed in lush, cinematic visuals shot around the world. Music from Enrico Coniglio (with visuals by Francesca Coniglio), Alucidnation, Another Fine Day, Ben Mynott, Mr Tom and Input Junkie; Video installations from: Simon Wild, Muffled Visions, Phoebe Rixon and Tim Hetherington. John Rixon will be presenting audio-visual collaborations, including his visual piece set to “The 4th State” by Jon Hopkins. This is the perfect place to come and unwind into the early hours, and stretch out the last remaining hours of the festival.
