Lol Hammond talks about Streetdance: The Movie

Lol Hammond, a Big Chill Label artist and the music supervisor for Vertigo Films, talks about his work on Streetdance 3D
“It was with much excitement that I entered into this vibrant and original project – the worlds first 3D dance movie! Directed by top inspirational promo directors Max Giwa and Dania pasquini this always going to be both totally original and unique.
Basically, for the past year I have totally been immersed in the world of grime, hip-hop, rap and now as it is known, urban pop – a very exciting place to be! When we started on the project Dizzee Rascal was just starting to to cross over into the mainstream, but as the film moved along more and more artists from this scene were blowing up. N-Dubz, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Wiley, Ironik and the list was growing and we watched as the underground became overground.
The films dancers were also now attracting much attention as well. Diversity, Flawless and George Sampson were all to become house hold names, and all across the UK, from kids to grannies and all ages in-between, were now street-dancing! The whole country had gone dance crazy!

I had already dipped my toe in the world of cool pop, writing and recording with Kimberley Walsh from the nations top pop sweethearts, Girls Aloud. I was now also writing with the urban pop sensation, Pixie Lott, and we decided to write a track for the film. This became the song ‘Live For The Moment’ which is one of the films lead tracks and features on the Universal Music soundtrack. The soundtrack is already available on iTunes and currently sits at no.8 in the main chart and no.1 on the soundtrack chart. The soundtrack gets a full physical release on Universal Music on May 24th. A soundtrack for this summer indeed!
It features music by the aforementioned Pixie Lott, N-Dubz, Tinie Tempah, Lethal Bizzle, Fatboy Slim, Wiley, Aggro Santos featuring Kimberley Wyatt from the Pussycat Dolls plus lots more! The first single from the film ‘Candy’ by Aggro Santos currently sits at no.3 on the main national chart.”
Streetdance 3D goes on full nationwide release this Friday 21st May.
