Mach V gets a taster of Hexstatic’s new Trailer Trax show…
May 14th, 2010 by sparkyBig Chill favourites Hexstatic performed their new ‘Trailer Trax’ show (which they’ll be bringing to Eastnor this year) at London’s Koko on May 13th, 2010. Festival compere/forum mainstay Mach V went to check the show out. Here’s what he thought…
“Tonight I saw something wonderful. Something I hadn’t seen for nigh on 12 years. Tonight I saw a completely new show from Hexstatic.
Since the late 90s Hexstatic’s Stuart Warren-Hill and Robin Brunson have been cutting a blinding trail through club culture, redefining the way we perceive dance music and entertainment. My own memories of their early concerts at The Big Chill’s Enchanted Garden Festival are still bright, where they cut their teeth with their groundbreaking blend of phat electro beats and iconic video samples, providing both motivation for the feet and wonderous cinematic entertainment for the eyes, and changed how I perceived djing and vjing permanently. Their strength, as AV artists, has always been to create dance floor packed performances which still allow the audience to take in all the big screen entertainment. Hexstatic’s magic is not just in getting the balance right between both audio and visual mediums but to make both equally important and essential to the live experience, and tonight was no exception.

Featuring Robin’s new ‘Trailer Trax‘ project (while Stuart continues to work on the Holotronica project) the show digs deep into the murky worlds of Hollywood B Movies, Japanese Monster Films and even Grindcore for it’s visual inspiration, all blisteringly cut into kick ass rhythms and, in the hands of Robin, are mixed with an urgency and skill to not only get the party started, but drive it up the walls, round the bend and through the roof. This is what we came here to see.Gone are the familiar favourites that have been pleasing audiences for so long, only to be replaced with new future classics, like the robotic destruction of “Gammera” and the menacing “Machete”. The beats move from techno, to drum and bass, back though dubstep, taking in dancehall and electro, every tempo change being expertly executed. And we danced. And we smiled.
This new set goes to prove their status as undisputed kings of Dancefloor AV Entertainment. Hexstatic once again rule the roost.”
