The Kids’ Zone

The Kids’ Zone will be run by a team dedicated to the little one’s entertainment, offering fun and performances for children of all ages, as well as on going activities and workshops in movement, dance, face painting, drum making, arts, crafts and lots more…

Carnival Arts Workshops
carnival_arts_webCarnival Arts entertain children and parents with their workshops, creating sculptures from bamboo and scrap materials, screen or block printing, eco art, mask making and kite making and encouraging kids to join in the carnival procession across the festival site.

Charlie Dark
charliedarkJoin Charlie Dark for an afternoon of storytelling and poems from the Library of Unread Books. Learn the art of vocal gymnastics, meet the King Of Haiku, sample some Alphabet Soup and immerse yourself in a wondrous word filled interactive
performance.

Charlie Dark’s ‘My Dad’s a DJ and my Mum is Too” Disco
Parents, are you missing the raving days since the kids arrived? Get your glad rags on, pack up the kids and head for the dance floor as Charlie Dark and the ‘My Dads a DJ and My Mum Is Too’ crew play the tunes to move your feet. Family friendly
selections, party games and fun vibes all round.

Francesca Beard presents ‘Animal Olympics’
francesca_beard_webInternationally acclaimed performance poet Francesca Beard presents ‘Animal Olympics’, a poetry puppet show for all the family! Meet Dragon, Rabbit, Tiger, Monkey, Snake and all the stars of the Chinese zodiac as they compete for your vote, with sparkling songs, stupendous stand-up and slinky story-telling.

Hang
hangHang love flying and playing. As well as performing, they’ll be creating opportunities for all to fly. From the babies to the grown ups, everyone will be welcome to try a little swing, a hang upside down, a strong climb or a stunning shape. If you prefer the ground to the air there will be hula-hoops, scarf juggling, live music, bubbles and lots of friendly fun.

John Hegley, Otiz Cannelloni and friends
John Hegley and Otiz Cannelloni return for another of their specially devised kids shows. Expect organised participatory chaos from John and the Popticians, including a song about a dog with wind and a human with furniture disorder, the marvellous
magic and mimes of Mt Otiz Cannelloni, communal singing and moving like an elephant.

No Strings Puppet Theatre
no_stringsOne of the finest street artists that Britain has to offer, Alan Kirkpatrick’s No Strings Puppet Theatre has travelled the world, spreading intricately crafted and captivating tales. This year Alan will be presenting two stories, ‘Robin Hood and the Monk’
and ‘Down To Earth’ – perfect for families and kids of all ages.

Professor Elemental

Professor Elemental is possibly the silliest rapper there ever was. Join him on his adventures, as he raps about made up animals, flying machines and lovely cups of tea with a monkey. You’ll also get the chance to join him on stage as part of his silly dancing competition and help him make up a brand new song on the spot.

Puppet Planet

Puppet Planet bring their interactive storytelling for children to the festival, with a traditional tale and a modern fable animated with vivid puppet characters. Come and meet Kankucho, a bird who never quite gets round to building his nest, and Bimbo,a clown who can make everyone laugh… except himself. Happy endings are highly likely!

Squiggle Entertainments
Pirate Squiggle and Princess Squiggle will bring the best children’s party entertainment, including drama and imagination games, balloon modelling, magic, interactive storytelling, pass the parcel and other themed variants on traditional
party games. Prizes and sweets to be won and loads of silly fun to be had!

The Italian Job
Join the chef and his utensils on a trip to Italy and learn how to make a pizza. Roll out some pre-prepared dough, add your toppings and watch as the pizza cooks in under a minute! Kids can take away their own pizza to share and enjoy, as well as learning that fastfood can be homemade and healthy too!

The Tall Tale Tellers.
Join the Tall Tale Tellers in the Kids’ Zone each afternoon to chill out with some lovely stories and rhymes. A group of local storytellers will entertain children aged between 0 and 8 with picture books, tales and songs in the sunshine.

Club Mum
An oasis for parents and children, Club Mum offers child-friendly play with a grown-up enviroment. Books, an art corner, toddlers’ rug area, sand, soft play toys and baby-changing facilities help make kids and parents feel at home. No one will be
able to resist a dance, as a great selection of tunes demand that you move your feet!
