Reggae Roast’s Summer BBQ – Saturday 3rd July
June 22nd, 2010 by sparky
After the storming success of the last Reggae Roast BBQ at Big Chill House in May, the doors will swing open once again for another all day roots and culture dance in the heart of Kings Cross on Saturday July 3rd (5pm-3am). Weather permitting, we hope to enjoy the spacious roof terrace throughout the day, with a BBQ serving tasty jerk chicken, while the tiki bar offers up a selection of cocktails. The vibes will begin to build on the dance floor from 5pm, which is guaranteed to stay bubbling until 3am.
Resident selectors Exel & Moodie will be joined by mic man Ramon Judah playing their usual selection of conscious roots music and big bass lines. This time around we have invited an all star line-up to keep the fire burning until the early hours.
We are delighted to announce Kenny Knots will be playing an exclusive live PA of his classic tracks, plus some up-front dub plates, including collaborations with Mungo’s Hifi. Alongside Kenny Knots, Lud Dub (Bigup Magazine USA), Louis Slipperz and Dub Hunter will play their toughest selections, spanning the whole spectrum of roots-reggae music.
Kenny Knots is one of the most established and well respected artists in UK reggae. His classic records like “Watch How The People Dancing” literally shaped the sound of modern dancehall and after 20 fruitful years, he is still releasing sound system anthems. His vocal talents have appeared on many of the great labels including; Honest Jon’s Records, Scotch Bonnet, Jet Star and Jah Tubbys. This will be a great opportunity to catch a legend in the flesh, playing a selection of his best loved tracks in an unbeatably intimate and positive setting.
The Big Chill House is the perfect place for this marathon all day session, with great deals on food & drink, comfy seating throughout the venue and a massive sound system across 2 floors. For the football fans – We will take a break in the music for a screening of the World Cup quarter finals, which will be played on big screens throughout the venue. This event is FREE until 10 pm so arrive early to avoid cues. The last few Reggae Roast BBQs have reached maximum capacity by 5 pm so don’t be late!
