The Busking for SolarAid auditions – win a set at this year's festival!

June 22nd, 2010 by

solaraidbuskerOn July 8th 2010 Big Chill Bristol will be hosting auditions for musicians to win a slot on the SolarAid Stage at Big Chill 2010. The stage is set up for simple acoustic/electro acoustic sets and submissions are welcome from all genres of music provided it is simple to stage. To avoid confusion, if you are a ska or a punk band we will need to hear your acoustic renditions at the auditions. We need a clear idea of how your set will work in the fast paced setting of the SolarAid stage. The SolarAid stage aims to be eclectic and so far has confirmed sets for US Folk/Americana sensations Pokey Le Farge and The South City Three, French Iraqi Hip Hop Artists Aiwa, new folk sensation Emily Portman and Big Chill favourites, The Magic Drum Orchestra.

The auditions will be judged by: Paul Moss (BBC Radio Gloucester), Dave Jenkins (editor IDJ Magazine), Big Chill Bristol head honcho Dave Smeaton and the Big Chill Bristol bar managers, Big Chill Label boss Eugenie Arrowsmith and RISE Records head of operations Lawrence Montgomery.

Musicians and performers wishing to take part in the auditions can submit their work in two ways:

  • Online - please send links to your music to eugenie@bigchill.net putting ‘BRISTOL SOLARAID AUDITIONS 2010′ in the subject line. MySpace, Soundcloud and Youtube links are fine to get an idea of what you are about. We will acknowledge receipt of your link by return email. * Please do not send massive files and complete albums as due to the volume of submissions we wont be able to go through it all. Keep it simple (a 100 word biography and details of your line up, direction) is all we need.
  • By post/in person to The Big Chill Bar (Bristol). Please send packages to;
  • Bristol SolarAid Auditions 2010,
    c/o Big Chill Bar Bristol,
    15 Small Street,
    Bristol,
    BS1 1DE

10 acts will be chosen to sing 3 songs on the night and a further 6 acts will be offered cocktails, refreshments and a mentoring session with Big Chill Label boss, Eugenie Arrowsmith, at the Bar in the afternoon from 3pm.

The SolarAid Buskers stage has a unique spot high on the hill over looking the Big Chill Festival. The Sun Hut positioned next to the stage itself will be choc-a-bloc with info about SolarAid and will host The SolarAid Sign Up, where in return for joining the SolarAid mailing list Big Chillers will be entered into an hourly raffle of Big Chill Label merchandise and other ethical goodies. You will also be able to charge your phone there too, so it’s a great place to visit.

Favre’s first big test off field

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. — Brett Favre’s next big test before taking the field for his Jets debut will be finding his way to the correct locker-room.

“I know where the visitors’ is,” New York’s new quarterback said. “I think from there, I can kind of backtrack.” Then, Favre stopped himself and asked how many locker-rooms there are at Giants Stadium. He was reminded that the defending Super Bowl champions also play there.

“I better follow someone,” Favre said with a big grin.

You’ll be fine, Brett. Just look for the guys in green and white.

Favre will make his highly anticipated Jets debut tonight when he starts against the Washington Redskins, a scenario that seemed so unlikely 10 days ago. this web site how many plays did shakespeare write

“This game will be fun,” Favre said. “As this thing gets rolling, the newness will wear off and it gets down to playing. And I’ll keep saying this: I’m here for one reason, and that’s to help this team win. No other reason.” Favre retired in March and then decided he still wanted to play, leading to a bitter divorce with Green Bay. He was acquired from the Packers last week and has been practising with the Jets (1-0) since last Saturday. Favre said his arm felt tired Wednesday and had his throws limited in his final two practices leading up to the game.

Coach Eric Mangini expected Favre to take eight to 12 snaps against the Redskins (2-0).

“You just can’t go in with a hard number because the game, especially in the pre-season, flows so differently that you don’t know how long the defence is going be to out, how long the offence is going to be out, what the situation is going to be, how long they’re going to keep their group out,” Mangini said. “So it’s hard to say it’s going to be this number hard-and-fast and that’s what we are sticking to, but usually you’re trying to get 10 or 12 reps.” No matter how long he plays, Favre’s presence will likely draw a sellout crowd to what would’ve been an otherwise ho-hum pre-season game. Over 10,500 fans showed up to his first practice last Saturday and the crowds have been consistent. More than 7,000 were in attendance for Thursday’s practice. go to site how many plays did shakespeare write

It might also be a little strange for the Redskins to see Favre wearing a Jets uniform after playing against him and the Packers in the NFC for so many years. “Hopefully, he’ll think he’s so special that we’ll only have to face him for a series or two,” Redskins coach Jim Zorn said.

Until the Jets acquired Favre, the Redskins had pulled off perhaps the biggest deal of the off-season when they traded with Miami for defensive end Jason Taylor. “I wish he had done it earlier,” Taylor said of Favre. “It would have been an easier off-season for me. Brett’s all the hype and all the talk right now, and that’s fine. Now I can go back to work and just do what I do.” It’s uncertain how many plays Taylor will be on the field with Favre. Zorn said the defensive end will likely take only a few snaps because he’s been bothered by a foot injury this week.
