Take part in Spencer Tunick's installation! Broken Bells, Mount Kimbie, Willkommen Collective and more added to the line-up!

Along with some of the best music acts of our time, The Big Chill 2010 brings the visual arts into the frame to bring you a summer to remember…

On August 8th, celebrated artist Spencer Tunick will create one of his world famous nude landscapes. The artist will use the festival’s unique architecture, as well as the stunning backdrop of Eastnor Castle Deer Park, to set the scene for his new and exciting work. Chillers wanting to participate in this unique opportunity can sign up by emailing spencertunick@bigchill.net. Find out more here.

tate_3Tate Britain, bringing works from its popular Rude Britannia exhibition, has teamed up with illustrators from the Royal College of Art this summer to celebrate British Comic Art in all its saucy, smutty, satirical glory. Talented young artists from the college that trained Quentin Blake, David Hockney and Tracey Emin will capture your inner debauchery and mischievousness in your very own take-home caricature. Visit the Words in Motion area to get your free caricature from the next generation of illustrators!

Words In Motion

Blending from arts into poetry and spoken word, an array of new attractions are to be presented on the Words in Motion stage. New names added to this stage are the Roundhouse Poets, originating from the legendary London venue of the same name, local storyteller Cat Weatherill, performance poetry organisation Apples and Snakes, English stand-up comedian, guitarist and writer Rob Deering, voice of The Simpsons and Spinal Tap’s Harry Shearer will be taking chillers on his journey through music, Bill Brewster and Frank Broughton will be holding their talk The Record Player; the story of dance music told by the people who made it happen. Simon Gandolfi presenting tales from his many American road trips whilst Rob Young comes to the perfect venue to uncover ‘The Secret History of Music Festivals’.

The Deer Park Stage

broken_bells Over on the musical side of the hill, new additions come firstly in the form of Broken Bells joining the Deer Park Stage on Sunday. Featuring much in demand producer Danger Mouse alongside The Shins frontman James Mercer, Broken Bells take a lo-fi indie sound laced with smooth grooves ripe for the ears of Chillers.

The Clash Stage

rye_rye Joining the all-new Clash stage line-up for Saturday will be Mount Kimbie, who has previously lent his remixing talents to the likes of The Big Pink, and Rye Rye, a Baltimore based rapper signed to none other than The Big Chill headliner M.I.A’s record label N.E.E.T. The Chakras will join Sunday’s proceedings with their psychedelic sounds on board the Pete Fowler designed pirate ship Clash stage.

The SolarAid Buskers Stage

wooworths1Whether you fancy catching new and undiscovered gems in an eco-friendly surrounding, taking to the stage themselves for open mic opportunities or even simply supporting a good cause then the SolarAid Buskers’ stage is the place to be. Powered entirely by the sun and ran by one of The Big Chill’s nominated charities SolarAid, theirs is the greenest of all stages at the festival. Acts reducing their carbon footprint include the soulful female fronted Brightonians, Iris and the Wolves, electro pop oufit, The Woo!Worths and the brilliantly named Dr Bulter’s Handstand Medicine Band amongst many more. Find out more (including how you can get involved) here.

Lazyland

willkommen_collectiveMaking a welcome crossing over the art/music border will be David Shrigley who, in addition to his illustrations on display at The Big Chill, will also take to the Lazyland stage for a DJ set. Shirgley joins a full to bursting Lazyland stage line-up of which some highlights include acoustic whistlers Willkommen Collective, folk- rockers Hella Better Dancer, funk trio Belleruche with their turntable funk music, a DJ set from Big Chill regular Sparky, trip-hop stalwart Funki Porcini, the haunting vocals of Victoria Wijeratne’s Ghosts You Echo, Big Chill recording’s Alucidnation, prolific production music composer Dominic Glynn, Young, talented troubadour Tresor and Ralfe Band, purveyors of a blues and jazz tinged lounge music style.
