Friday: Explosions In The Sky on The Deer Park Stage
August 7th, 2010 by sparky
Instrumental post-rockers from Texas played an intense and emotional set to an enraptured audience on the Deer Park Stage. A truly epic show, you could understand why their sound has been referred to as “sonic theatre”.
One of three electric guitarrists Mark Smith put in a sublimely passionate performance, completely losing himself in the sound. All three guitarrists blissfully swinging their guitars with eyes closed as they pleased the crowd with songs such as ‘The Life and Death of the Day’, and ‘Remember Me as a Time of Day’.
They constantly switched between long sessions of intense, steady build up, deafening near-silences then crescendos of thrashing guitar and drumming.
It was the perfect warm-up for Thom Yorke and Massive Attack who followed.
