Colwall C.E. Primary School project funded through The Big Chill residents ticket scheme
November 23rd, 2010 by JenThis summer the new organisers of The Big Chill, Festival Republic, offered
Colwall residents discounted weekend tickets to the festival for £25.
Continuing Festival Republic’s support for local communities, 100% of the revenue from these resident ticket purchases are being used to fund local community projects in Colwall.
Seventy-five residents took part in the scheme this year and a total of £1,875 has been generated to fund a project at Colwall C.E. Primary School: the Forest Schools initiative. The scheme involves using the outdoors to inspire children in their learning. An area of woodland is used to act as an outdoor classroom where children can explore, investigate and discover the natural environment. It allows children to develop not only educationally, but also physically, emotionally and socially.
Paul Chambers, Head Teacher of Colwall C.E. Primary School: “The children benefit from enrichment of learning in different curriculum areas and Forest School activities can greatly increase interest and confidence and motivate children. On top of all that, it’s great fun.”
Melvin Benn, Managing Director of Festival Republic: “Our community and charity partners are integral to everything we do at Festival Republic. I am very happy with our first year being the team behind The Big Chill – the original yet still the best boutique festival. We very much look forward to welcoming more residents of Colwall in 2011 and for many years to come. I am so pleased the resident ticket scheme this year will be funding such a fantastic project which will inspire the children’s learning and I hope to visit it soon. Who knows, perhaps students of Colwall Primary will be The Big Chill’s performers of the future!”
Festival Republic is the UK’s leading festival promoter, welcoming The Big Chill into its family at the end of 2009. Festival Republic continues to work closely with local communities around The Big Chill to ensure the festival improves year on year in its wonderful Herefordshire setting.
Highlights of 2010 included performances from Lily Allen, Tinie Tempah, Plan B, Paloma Faith, Massive Attack and Radiohead’s Thom Yorke.
