As relevant today as the day she started broadcasting, Annie Nightingale is the first lady of broadcasting. With an impressive career spanning 4 decades at BBC Radio 1 she has paved the way for the likes of Janice Long to Mary Anne Hobbs to Annie Mac. Multi-award-winning Annie Nightingale is known as an energetic party animal and claims to be most proud of winning Muzik Magazine’s Caner Of The Year, among other awards which include being the first female DJ to be inducted in the Radio Academy Hall Of Fame.
In 2010 Annie entered the Guinness Book of Records for longest running female radio DJ show in the world, whilst also picking up the Outstanding Contribution to Dance Music award from DJ Mag. The 2010 celebrations of Annie’s career included an exhibition of Annie’s photos at the O2 and a complete takeover of Radio 1 featuring a 9-hour broadcast, highlighting Annie’s far reaching choices in music, with live guests ranging from Tinchy Stryder and Professor Green to Subfocus, Primal Scream, Kevin Shields and Paul Weller.
