The Little Chill, Enchanted Garden and Therapy & Chill revealed

June 28th, 2011 by

The Big Chill is this year laying on its best ever facilities dedicated to families flocking to the festival. The Little Chill, a festival within a festival, was confirmed as part of The Big Chill’s launch announcement and now we are happy to unveil further features of this extra special addition to the site.

Open only to festival goers who have specifically purchased a family ticket, the area will feature entertainment laid on especially for younger audiences as well as housing the family camping area and facilities. Magician Mr Bamboozle and clown Matt Zaz will perform alongside award-winning illustrators and authors, Hannah Shaw (Evil Weasel, Crocodiles are the Best Animals and The Great Hamster Massacre) and Andy Stanton (the Mr Gum books).

Interactive workshops such as drama and dance are set to take place, led by Janine Sharp and 2FaCeD DaNcE. Furthermore a daily carnival-themed parade will set out across the site featuring costumes, flags and masks made by The Little Chillers from that day’s creative arts workshops. Matching the energy levels of any adult festival-goer, The Little Chill audience can also test their skills of agility at their very own dedicated circus area featuring stilt walking, unicycling, juggling shows and workshops. There will also be DJ Dads sessions led by Tom Middleton and featuring the fathers of the new generation of Chillers, who will be dropping beats guaranteed to get everyone’s feet, big or small, stamping. Once everyone is danced out then The Little Chill has the perfect way to unwind with the nightly midnight movies.

Making a return in 2011 is the Enchanted Garden, housing a newly re-named and expanded Therapy & Chill field containing relaxing treatments and indulgences. Giant UV butterflies set the theme for this year’s Enchanted Garden with butterfly stilt walkers on hand to guide festival-goers into this secluded area of delights. The Birdcage Stage housed in a giant gilded birdcage hosts performances from eclectic bands throughout the day and as if by magic the bands vaporise before your eyes, replaced by a beautiful plumed bird swinging from her precarious perch. At the stroke of midnight the cabaret begins hosted by H.P Lovebox and Mr Tom Baker and featuring the Lux Collective and London’s Late Night Shop Cabaret with bands The Bohemianauts, Kings Size Slim, Marcina Arnold and the Love Rats with DJ’s Nico and Adam Freeland, the night entertainment is not to be missed, with still more to be announced.

This year, featuring nearly twice the number of practitioners than ever before, the Therapy & Chill field will see treatments and indulgences from head to foot on offer. Pressure-point treatments such as Reflexology, oli-based Aromatherapy and energy-based Reiki will all be available to soothe the audience. Those seeking something more glamorous can revitalise their festival look through facials, foot soaks, hair styling or even a ‘Tailored Time’ hour of specially designed treatments if they book in advance of the festival at www.bigchill.net/news/2011/06/pre-book-your-massage/.
