August 18th, 2011 by AbbyFrom this September we are launching our brand new monthly Friday night called Big Chill Live showcasing bang on forward flavours
of hip hop, soul and funk artists– all performing live. These will take place every second Fridayo the month.
Kick starting it all off is a launch party hosted by heavyweight record label Big Dada. The hip hop imprint of London record label Ninja Tunes, Big Dada is best known for being the force behind Roots Manuva and Wiley. A hot bed for catching the next big thing Big Dada gets ready to strut out some of the most vital new sounds of now.
NME described Big Dada as
“Not only a platform for the British urban underground but also attracts some of the most progressive wordsmiths and beat-scientists in the whole world… Big Dada are still pushing things forward.”
Headlining is Liverpool bred, Bang On!. Described as a ‘funny and furious’ MC he’s has the knack of spinning stories and nailing metaphors to make you think rap is a good idea. Also a top-notch producer, Radio 1’s Toddla T invited him to freestyle for the Chart Attack section of his Radio One show. The beat was put together by bassline’s brightest, DJ Q, who remixed ‘All Time Low’ by The Wanted, perhaps shattering the notion that you can’t polish a turd. The end result is all banging bass and blazing raps, and is definitely a track to own.
Elan Tamara will also bring a new dimension to the night. Famous for not sounding like anyone else, her music is described as heartfelt and beautifully other-wordly. She recently released the Organ EP on Big Dada which has been critically acclaimed. This is an upfront opportunity to catch this very unique artist in action.
Mutli-talented Ewan Robertson aka Offshore is making some of the most exciting, emotional electronic music coming out right now. The celebrated graphic designer from takes inspiration from the moors, mountains and folk music of his homeland, Scotland and mixes it up with the urban inner city vibes of London for a very fresh exciting sound. Bass-heavy and packed with detail he ‘s also poised to release his debut album on Big Dada this summer.
Finally completing the Big Dada fab four is Dobie. Recently signed to Big Dada he’s a legendary figure in black British music. Not only did he work on two Soul II Soul albums, he went on to produce London’s ‘How’s Life In London?” Recently remixing ‘’Wiley’s Numbers in Action’
So that’s it, that’s the four incredible artists will making King’s Cross the place to be on September 9th. Come down and join the party.
