Jillionaire Q&A

November 17th, 2011 by

With over fifteen years of experience, Jillionaire has created a unique sound which mashes Indie Dance and Big Room House with the Caribbean rhythms of Soca and Dancehall. On the 26th November, the Big Chill House has the privilege of seeing Jillionaire play as part of Big Chill Presents Physically Fit & Hipsters Don’t Dance’s Dancehall Jamboree, a special takeover featuring a mixture of the scene’s legends, up and comers and brightest stars. We steal a few moments from the man bringing all the fun carnival vibes to ask him these questions…

What is the track that sums you up?

Man, so many questions! Choosing a track or choosing favorites is always a tough task. At the moment, Major Lazer’s ‘Original Don’ is my anthem. It’s got new school electric Dancehall sensibility meshed with the old school MC vibes. Plus it bangs. It’s a good track to play if you’re on a yacht full of models, or deep in the jungles of South America doing things I’d rather not discuss here.

What are your top 5 Dancehall tracks of all time?

I can’t say my five all time faves but here are five good Reggae ones:

Max Romeo And The Upsetters – Chase the Devil

Black Uhuru – Sinsemillia

Collie Buddz – Come Around

Damian Marley – Welcome To Jamrock

I Wayne – Can’t Satisfy Her

And sh*t, ok here are five good Dancehall ones as well:

Bounty Killer – Lodge

Tenor Saw – Ring The Alarm

Chaka Demus And Pliers – Murder She Wrote

Reggie Stepper – Modelling

Gospel Fish – Sweetest Ting In Life

There’s this thing on the internet that has every song in the world, it’s called YouTube, you can check ‘em out there.

What are you most looking forward to at the Dancehall Jamboree?

The Dancehall Jamboree is gonna be weighty, I’m really looking forward to jamming with my mates Serocee and Murlo, and just generally drinking lots of rum and chatting sh*t over chunes.
