IT'S ALL GOING PETE TONG FOR LOL HAMMOND

It's All Going Pete Tong For Lol Hammond

Big Chill Recording's Lol Hammond has been busy working on 'It's All Gone Pete Tong' - a comedy set in the world of club culture.

The film recently had it's World Premiere at the Toronto Film Festival, is to be released in the UK on 27th May 2005.

The first single from the soundtrack - Reflekts 'Need to feel loved' - is released on February 14th.

I caught up with Lol to get a bit of advance info about the film, the soundtrack, and his involvememt with both.

'It's All Gone Pete Tong'- What’s it all about?
It’s about the rise and fall and rise again of fictitious superstar D.J Frankie Wilde, played by the multi talented Paul Kaye (best known as the infamous Dennis Pennis). The film was shot almost entirely on location on the beautiful island of Ibiza. The film is amazing, rich in colour and full of vibrancy.

Is Pete Tong in it?
Pete is in the movie with a hilarious cameo appearance interviewing Frankie Wilde. He has also given us his first recorded works for the movie, which is a real coup for us. He has recorded a gorgeous chill out tune 'Ku Da Ta' for the eclectic C.D part of the soundtrack.

What’s been your involvement been with the film?
I was music supervisor on the movie. It was the third one I’ve done now. Previously I worked on 'South West Nine', and the critically acclaimed Brit flick 'The Football Factory'. I also got involved in other parts of the production. With numerous Ibiza contacts I helped find locations and brought in numerous friends for cameos including Carl Cox, Charlie Chester and Barry Ashworth from the 'Dub Pistols'.

Who's on the soundtrack?
The soundtrack will be a double CD.
One CD will feature the more eclectic artists featured in the movie including The Beach Boys, The Penguin Café Orchestra (a personal fave), The Beta Band, and Graham Massey from 808 States original score. The other C.D will focus more on the club-orientated tracks. We have tracks from Deep Dish, The Shape Shifters, and Pete Tong himself.
Paul Kaye supplies lead vocals on the double funk track 'Can You Hear Me Now?' which will be the third single released from the movie. The soundtrack will be released to co-incide with the release of the movie in late May 2005 on Positiva / EMI Records.

How many times have you seen the finished film?
Quite a few times! Some scenes more than others because I try to fit the music to the pictures. I can honestly say I have never grown tired of this particular movie, Paul’s performance as Frankie Wilde is nothing short of truly amazing!

Does it still make you laugh? What’s your favourite bit?
It does make you laugh. At one point I became so close to the film I honestly thought it might just be me!! But out at the Toronto Film Festival the audience I swear laughed from start to finish. Without giving too much away, my favourite bit involves Paul and numerous rocket fireworks being tied around someone’s head.

Now that 'Its All Gone Pete Tong' is complete, what are you working on?
It’s funny; I’m still working on things connected to 'Its All Gone Pete Tong'. Even with 'The Football Factory' things pop up from time to time. I spent last week in West London’s Townhouse Studios with Ben Cherrill from Positiva compiling the soundtrack. I also, along with the 'Double Funk' boys, re-recorded some vocals from Paul and brought in The Rhythm Section from legendary Punk act 'The Ruts' to record a guitar based version of 'Can You Hear Me Now?'

What else is happening in your life at the moment?
We are now in the process of setting up a full nationwide tour based around 'Its All Gone Pete Tong'. Acts on the tour will include Deep Dish, Pete Tong, The Shape Shifters and Myself!!
After the success of 'The Football Factory' we have been approached to make many movies so now it is a matter of wadding through the offers and finding what we really want to do. A very enviable position to be in, but obviously one that could change instantly in such a fickle industry as ours.
Tong will be released May 27th 2005 nationwide with distribution handled by the very capable Red Bus team. I am still playing regularly most weekends in the U.K and abroad. I have an EP of piano lead tunes (the track 'Cloud Watch' is featured in the film) coming out on the Big Chill label in May. I also have a collaboration with the legendary Brian Eno in the can and ready to go.

I am also due to be a father for the first time in two weeks, which is both very scary and exciting!!

The soundtrack will be a worldwide release.
A double CD released to co-inside with the movie release on 27th May 2005 on Positiva / EMI Records.
