FLEVANS - A PROFILE

Flevans - A Profile

Flevans - A biography
As one of the stalwarts of Brighton’s renowned Tru Thoughts label, Flevans released 3 successful 12”s, followed up with 2004’s debut ‘Make New Friends’ album. His music has featured on compilations such as the Unabombers ‘Electric Soul’, Kid Loco’s ‘Anotherlatenight’, Ministry Of Sound’s ‘Chillout Sessions’ and Bonobo/Ninja Tunes’ Solid Steel, and has seen him remix the likes of Dr Rubberfunk, Jon Kennedy and most recently Australia’s Rephrase to great effect.

Since the release of ‘Make New Friends’, Flevans has DJ’ed all over the world, entertaining crowds at gigs including last years’ Big Chill (which he describes as ‘one of the best days of my life’), ‘Friends & Family’ in Tokyo, ‘Turntables’ in New York and ‘Saint-Ex’ in Washington, as well as regular DJ appearances in London (Medicine, Cargo, The End, The Big Chill bar etc) and all over the UK. Flevans’ DJ sets never stick to any particular genre, gleefully ripping up hip hop, funk and party breaks, and serving as a showcase for new dancefloor-friendly unreleased material (You can expect several sneak previews of tracks from his forthcoming album). One thing is for certain -Flevans is always guaranteed to get a party rocking and put a smile on peoples’ faces.

After an extensive summer of DJ’ing and playing live with Backini, it was time to get back on with releasing music, so Flevans hooked up with the up and coming Jack To Phono label, and embarked on 2 single releases under the moniker 'Mooch' - The 2nd Mooch single, ‘Sounds Good’ was released in May 06, gaining support from the likes of Mr Scruff, Boca 45, Jelly Jazz, Dr Rubberfunk and Diesler among others.

Flevans' second album is scheduled for a September 06 release, also on Jack To Phono.

Post-2005 festival feedback from Flevans...

How did you enjoy your set?
Amazing - the best gig I've ever played and without doubt the best crowd I've ever played to. The sun came out, and hundreds of crazy people danced outside Fat Tuesdays - the crew were really helpful, and everything went smoothly.
Yes yes yes.

Which other acts did you enjoy watching?
The whole weekend was fantastic again - Xploding Plastix and Alice Russell/Tm Juke were without doubt my highlights.

What are you up to now?
No releases in the pipeline right now - it's unlikely that there will be any new Flevans material until next year, although I have a few remixes in the pipeline. My website address is www.flevans.co.uk and it's constantly updated, so there's the place to check for news...
