FOLK2FUTURE

Folk2future

Dj Haptic (aka Nyge) and Steve Astronaut-Knight met at infants school in Alton, Hampshire before either of them had started their record collections. Nyge's first memory of Steve is of him tipping a bucket of water over his head. Things have improved a little since then.

The first record Nyge bought was a 'Top Of The Pops' compilation (which he bought for The Sweet's 'Blockbuster'). The first record Steve bought was 'The Action Man March' (he still occasionaly plays the b-side out, 'Realistic Battle Sounds').

Early musical exploits included recording a version of the theme song for the 'Spiderman' TV show featuring an eight-handed guitar solo.

During the early 90s, together with Andy Cowan, they formed The Knights Of The Occasional Table, exploiting the new possibilities of computer and synth to record their debut album 'Knees Up Mother Earth'. Recorded largely in the front room of a council flat with assistance from the digidub pioneers Zion Train, this album was acclaimed by many and led to a session on John Peels show. Their second album, 'The Planet Sweet', included the single 'Eden' which became a single of the week on Radio 1s evening show.

Some years later The Knights took a sharp left turn and 'went folk'. Still using the technology, but with the addition of Phil Martin on hurdy-gurdy and Mee on violin they released 'John Barleycorn 2000', an album which explores the rich seam of folk in a more modern context of synthesisers and loops.

They have appeared all over the place over the years: Megatripolis, Return To The Source, Escape from Samsara, London Zoo, The Warp, Megadog and of course The Big Chill (first Djing there back in the Union Chapel days)...

Now hosting The Big Chill bars FOLK 2 FUTURE night they continue to cross genres and suprise with their eclectic tom-foolery...
