BAM BAM Sound

Bam Bam Sound

Listen to Bam Bam Sound on Big Chill Radio

What is Bam Bam Sound?
Bam Bam Sound is the acceptable public face of Duck and Johnny Clash, a two headed Ragamuffin Junglist B-Boy Punk-Rock Rave Monster of ill repute.

Johnny Clash served in the ska-punk trenches for the duration of the nineties as "Dan", singer, songwriter and rhythm guitarist, touring incessantly on 3 continents and making absolutely no money. Since trading in his Les Paul for two 1210's, he's been witnessed in a number of seedy locales rinsing out reggae riddims on 7", along with a variety of other musical biscuits. In addition to being half of Bam Bam, he hosts his own monthly extravaganza at the Railway in Tulse Hill, South London. He still isn't making any money.

Duck started out as a DJ at the tender age of sixteen with a free party crew known as Commonground, which threw outdoor events in the Sussex countryside for four years until the man came and made them stop. Moving indoors to avoid both the man and the weather, the next few years saw Commonground put on events in London, Manchester, Bristol, Leeds and Brighton including some legendary (and messy) New Years Eve gigs at The Escape club on Brighton seafront. After promoting deep funk club "Cissy Strut" in Leeds with a few other hopeless reprobates, Duck eventually flew South to London just over a year ago, met Mr. Clash, and the rest is as they say, history. Duck isn't making any money either, although he does quite like his day job.

Over the last year, the Bam Bam Sound boys have notched up guest appearances at The Big Chill, Playtime, Haven4, Friends of the Earth, Urban75 Offline, All Time Top 100, Belleruche, Skylarkin', Daft Pink , Club 30-69 and at every dodgy house party with inadequate deck-side security provision.

Johnny Clash gets up close and personal...

What's your name?
Johnny Clash. You can call me Mr Clash, or JC, or Dan.

Cheers Mr Clash, or JC, or Dan. Where do you call home?
Leafy South East London, the suburbs.

What is your night at The Big Chill Bar called and how would you describe the music policy?
'scalled Bam Bam, it's Reggae Doubleplus...

What are your current top tunes?

1. Welcome to Jamrock by Damian Marley. It's hoooooj.
2. Murder by Ray Keith. Bears a passing resemblance to the above, on a junglist tip.
3. Rude Boy Mix by Top Cat. A timeless classic.
4. Reggae Bring Back Love by Morgan Heritage. Another timeless classic.
5. Bittersweet by Yam Yam. Beautiful. It may get released someday...

Oh, and anything and everything by the diminutive London genius that is Lady Sovereign.

What's the secret of playing a good set at the bar?
Take a Duck with you.

Where else do you play / have you played?
I've got a regular night at the Railway in Tulse Hill. I've guested with
Belleruche, Haven4, Urban75 Offline, Skylarking. Played on Big Chill Radio at the festival this year.
House parties, barbecues, barmitzvahs, you name it.

When did you first encounter The Big Chill and what mental image do the words 'Big Chill' conjur up for you?
The first festival at Eastnor, 2002. Fun. Fun fun fun. And beats. And fun.

What's your favourite meal on the bar menu, and if someone was to offer to buy you a drink, what would you ask for?
mmm... steak. Vodka and tonic with a double espresso on the side.

Ever had anything funny, bizarre, random or cool happen while playing there? A favourite memory from one of your nights?
I usually send the nutters to talk to Duck. People with free records to hand out come to me. I like it that way round. Playing 6am til midday New Years Day was wicked, one of my favourite memories full stop.

What's your favourite website (apart from this one, of course)?
I'm rather fond of Rathergood.com, genius wonky animation. And dogsonacid services my Jungle needs.
