This gig will see Fat Freddy's Drop rounding off an amazing year in style. One which saw them not only make a huge impression on the crowd at Eastnor, but also clean up at the New Zealand Music Awards taking home 4 gongs including, Best Album, Best Group, Best Aotearoa Roots Album and the prestigious People’s Choice award. The group also sold out shows all over the globe.
The Wellington band also launches their second single ‘Wandering Eye’ from their massive debut album ‘Based On A True Story’. The single is a great example of Freddy’s hybrid style, fusing elements of soul, funk and reggae, creating an amalgamation that sounds like Outkast meeting Roy Ayers in a South Pacific discotheque with Norman Cook on the wheels of steel.
The Pacific purveyors of hi-tek soul are first and foremost a live band, so come and see Fat Freddy’s Drop in their element, a jaw droppingly good seven piece band that create a sound and an atmosphere that is rarely seen nowadays on the live circuit. Particularly as they’ll be ripping out the Palais soundsystem and for this night only putting in an almighty rig that will rumble all the way to NYE.
With support coming from another Eastnor sensation; the one-man blues band, Son Of Dave, and DJ’s Tubbs and Vee, this will be the Christmas gig spreading some serious Aotearoa Christmas cheer.
