"It's about expressing something through our music that cannot be communicated in any other language."

Formed in 2002 when Paul Gathercole, Kevin Paul and Ben Ackland joined forces, AGK could only have come into being in the UK. They are the archetypal odd couple, (except that they are a trio) and their music takes you on an introspective trip through loss into euphoria. A British group in the noble tradition of groups like Japan, The Associates and The Divine Comedy.

Naming their project after their initals (Ackland, Gathercole and, er, Kevin), the boys made a splash with the track ‘Pling’, swiftly followed by ‘The Shortest Romance EP’ which had them tipping their hats at their 80s influences with an eerie cover of Duran Duran’s ‘Planet Earth’. Plaudits and support came from Pete Lawrence, Mixmaster Morris, Chris Coco and Mark Moore amonst others.

Their mission statement(s) show them to "want people to make meaningful long-term relationships with our songs", "do more of what we already do but better" and "to win our own race". Worthy aims, and they took one step closer to achieving them with their 2005 album "The Liking of Things".

AGK’s influences range from Kraftwerk and The Orb through to Nick Drake, David Sylvian, Vivaldi and Adam & The Ants, while DJ Magazine described them as ‘shimmering in the spirit of Depeche Mode and their ilk. Moving mood music for the melancholic.’

Live sets at Eastnor 2004 and 2005, not to mention The Big Chill Recordings 2005 tour, saw AGK winning many new fans, with their unique take on contemporary songwriting and production. And with ‘The Liking of Things’ infiltrating stereos nationwide, 2006 can only bring more and better things.
