Meet The Compères... Stuart Barthel
What's your day job?Cameraman/editor.
When and where was your BC compère debut?
Eastnor 2005.
What stage are you on this year?
Sanctuary Stage. Hurrah, I get to see daylight this year.
What are you looking forward to on your stage?
Loads of stuff. The geek in me is dead excited about Tontos Expanding Head Band (even if the original TONTO isn't going to be there); Echaskech (who I've a strong suspicion will rock it); Laroca (some spot on summer grooves); Psapp (two ace albums, can't wait to se them do them live); Marconi Union, Parallax Beat Brothers (even more so if they bring Jon Hassell along to guest, I can dream can't I?); Dollboy, Digitonal (now with added harp, and who have been superb whenever I've seen them), the live debut of Telefuzz. Frankly the whole line up is looking great.
Any embarrassing or difficult compère moments to share?
Turning into a sad gushing fanboy when introducing Efterklang (but hey, they were worth it). Trying to get The Puppetmastaz off stage. Nothing else springs to mind (maybe I've got selective amnesia).
Tell us one of your best compèring moments!
Introducing Efterklang, who then proceeded to blow me away. Playing a bunch of my favourite records, and people seeming to like them.
If all else fails…
Laugh, and hope you've got away with it.
My personal Big Chill highlight so far has been…
Getting to play at my favourite festival.
Top festival tip?
Pace yourself.
Lastly, I'm not posh, I'm…
Klassy.
